Redesigned power filters simplify maintenance and improve aquarium water quality. Multi-stage filters boast innovative new features including an external motor assembly for engineered water flow that maximizes filter performance and aquarium oxygenation. Bio-Scrubber insert ensures excellent biological filtration and reusable clamshell filter frame functions as a no-touch, drip-free carrier for fast and convenient filter media change.
Features:
SilentFilter™ Technology - The Whisper EX is ready to go, right out of the box. Simply adjust the extension tube, place the filtration system on your aquarium and plug it in. The submerged motor begins filtering water immediately. No priming required. Silent operation.
Multi-Stage Filtration - Unlike other aquarium filters, the Whisper EX directs water through multiple layers of floss to remove more particles. The coarse floss removes large particles while the tan multi-density floss removes fine particles. The carbon inside eliminates odors, discoloration, and most importantly, harmful toxins. The Bio-Scrubber removes ammonia and nitrite that are deadly to your fish.
Carbon Filter Carrier - The new filter carrier holds the filter - and the drips - so you don't have to. After discarding the old filter and inserting the new one, the carrier easily drops back into place within the filtration system.
Carbon Filter Access Door - Allows easy access to the carbon filter carrier for fast, clean, and easy filter changes.

Instructions Installing your Filtration System
Attach Strainer (and Extension Tubes, if necessary) so that Strainer will be no closer than 2" to aquarium gravel once the system is hanging on aquarium frame.
Hang system on aquarium frame. Be sure aquarium water is at or above the Minimum Water Level indicated on system's Motor Assembly.
Once the system is properly placed, plug filtration system into outlet being sure to arrange a drip loop with the power cord.
Maintaining your Filtration System Changing the Filter Cartridge Note: Please be sure to select the proper Carbon Filter Carrier (they are color-coded to indicate size. Green for Medium cartridge and Blue for Large cartridge).
Open the system's Carbon Filter Access Door and lift out Carbon Filter Carrier.
Hold Carbon Filter Carrier above Carbon Filter Access Door for a few seconds to drain water. Then invert Carbon Filter Carrier at a 45-degree angle and carry to waste bin.
Squeeze Carbon Filter Carrier Handle to drop dirty Carbon Filter Cartridge into waste bin.
Insert clean Carbon Filter Cartridge into Carbon Filter Carrier (blue-colored floss should face the front). Drop Carbon Filter Carrier into system and close Carbon Filter Access Door.
Cleaning the Bio-Scrubber Insert Note: Do not dispose of the Bio-Scrubber Insert unless it is damaged. It is a permanent part of the filtration system and not meant to be replaced or disturbed. If your Bio-Scrubber Insert should ever become clogged as evidenced by restricted water flow or water flowing over the top of the Bio-Scrubber Insert, follow the procedure below.
Remove the system's Hood and remove the Bio-Scrubber Insert.
Gently rinse the Bio-Scrubber Insert under cool water to dislodge clogs. Do not use soap or any other cleaner. Note: Do not remove the beneficial bacteria growing on the Bio-Scrubber Insert. These bacteria turn toxins into harmless compounds.
Re-insert Bio-Scrubber Insert and snap system Hood back into place.

Unlike natural aquatic systems, toxic compounds accumulate quickly in an enclosed aquarium system. Without a natural means to efficiently remove these toxic compounds or wastes, conventional aquariums are dependent upon filtration devices.
There are three basic types of aquarium filter media and each performs a different job to help keep a clean and healthy aquarium environment. This article gives a basic overview of the three main types of filter media.
