Customized, convenient plumbing of any wet/dry filter system. Universal filter drain kit fits standard 1" PVC pipe or 1-1/4" OD barbed fittings to connect aquarium drain and filter intake pipe. Corrugated hose easily cuts to desired length. Includes silicone sealant to prevent leaks and all necessary hose cuffs and clamps.
Includes: 4-ft of 1-1/4" corrugated hose, 2 hose cuffs, 2 hose clamps, and a 1 oz tube of silicone sealant.
This drain kit is intended for use with standard 1" PVC pipe or 1-1/4" OD barbed fittings. To ensure quiet filter operation, the hose length should be adjusted or cut so that it is as short as possible without twisting or kinking. A hose with excess length will sag and cause a noisy flushing effect.
Measure the required hose length by placing it between the aquarium drain and filter intake pipe. The hose should form an inverted "S" shape curve.
Carefully cut hose to the measured length, using a sharp knife.
Place a 1/8" thick bead of silicone on top rim of the hose end (rim when looking down into the hose).
Next, hold the tube of silicone perpendicularly to the threads of the hose. Rest the tip of the tube against the hose thread and rotate hose slowly while squeezing the tube gently. Fill five thread grooves full of silicone to be level with the ridges. Putting a bead that is thicker than the ridges will require unnecessary clean up of the cuff.
Place a cuff onto the silicon-applied hose end and rotate the cuff counterclockwise. Watch the end of the hose through the cuff opening and stop rotation when the end of the hose touches the bottom of the narrow part of the cuff and the silicone squeezes out. Do not over-tighten.
If necessary, clean up excess silicone from the outside of the hose cuff using paper towel.
Repeat steps 3 through 6 for the other end of the hose.
Let the hose cure for 24 hours before installation. Failure to allow silicone to cure will result in leakage.
After curing, attach securely one end of the hose to the aquarium drain and the other end of the hose to the filter intake pipe. Install the provided hose clamps to fittings. It may be helpful to first soak the hose clamps in hot water for a few minutes to increase pliability and ease slippage of each clamp onto the hose/pipe.
Plumbing, is essential for the ongoing health of your aquarium. The configuration of tubing, fittings, valves, joints, performs the vital task of transporting water from your aquarium to your filtration unit(s), then back. This article explains how.
