Cleaning your chicken coop
When your chicken coop and yard are clean, you have a better chance to have healthy chickens. With that in mind, here are some quick cleaning tips you can do regularly (weekly, or more often, depending on your flock size) so you'll have less to do when you are ready to deep clean the coop.
- Keep a feather duster handy. Chickens generate a lot of dust and a quick swipe of the coop keeps dust manageable.
- Make sure you get the roosting boxes clean. This is the place where most of the droppings will be. If you have a thin layer of shavings inside the roosting box, the dropping will be easier to remove.
- Scoop up wet spots on the coop floor and replace with dry bedding.
- Clean, disinfect and dry feeders and waterers.
