Ultra compact aquarium water level controller with electronic sensors
Use to replenish evaporated water in freshwater or marine aquariums
Low voltage system for use with aquarium top off pumps up to 50 watts
Replenish evaporated aquarium water with greater reliability and ease. Hydor Smart Level Control Automatic Top Off System is a next generation ATO system designed to maintain ideal aquarium or sump water level. Easy-to-install system employs an electronic sensor and has no moving parts to ensure accurate and reliable sensing and replenishment of aquarium water level. Unique electronic sensor is unaffected by surface movement of aquarium water to eliminate inaccurate function commonly experienced with ATO systems using mechanical float sensors.
Hydor Smart Level Control Automatic Top Off System features LEDs to display operational status. LEDs light up to indicate minimum and maximum water levels as well as the "Alarm" level. Audible alarm also sounds in the event where water level exceeds the desired maximum top off level. Low voltage system for use with aquarium top-off pumps rated up to 50 watts Top off pump required for operation and sold separately.
Hydor Smart Level Control Automatic Top Off System includes Smart Level Control, plastic support for sensor, magnetic suction cup (suitable for up to 0.4 inch aquarium glass thickness), two cable clips with adhesive, and instructions. Smart Level Control measures just 5-3/4" x 4" x 1" thick.
Note: Carefully choose where to position your Hydor Smart Level Control Automatic Top Off System. It must be easily accessible, clearly visible, not exposed to humidity if possible, and there must be no risk of it falling in the water (aquarium or sump). Keep out of children's reach.
Mount the transparent Plastic Support onto the Sensor.
Insert one of the two Magnetic Suction Cups onto the transparent Plastic Support. Then position the Sensor Horizontally at the desired level, placing the second Magnetic Suction Cup on the outside. For the Sensor to be positioned correctly, the maximum thickness recommended for the surface between the two Magnetic Suction Cups must be 0.4 inches.
Position and secure the cable of the Sensor using the adhesive Cable Clip (provided) so as to prevent the sensor from rotating and guarantee the system functions correctly.
Please Note: Clean the inside of the aquarium carefully before applying the adhesive Cable Clip.
Please Note: If the Sensor is slanted or not positioned horizontally, the system may not function correctly.
Once the Sensor has been positioned correctly:
Connect the top-up pump to the Outlet Socket of the Hydor Smart Level Control Automatic Top Off System.
Please Note: The maximum power of the top-up pump applicable for use with the Hydor Smart Level Control Automatic Top Off System is 50 watts. Check the data on the top-up pump ID plate before switching on the system.
Switch on the Smart Level Control using the On-Off switch.
Green LED indicates Power is ON.
When the switch is ON, the Smart Level Control will calibrate the Sensor. During this operation, the ALARM, MAX, and MIN LEDs will flash. Once calibration is complete, the functioning cycle will begin automatically.
IMPORTANT: Calibration of the Top-Up Phase Please Note: For the system to function correctly, the Sensor requires a top-up time of between 25 seconds and 10 minutes.
Top-up time is the time required for the pump you have connected to the Smart Level Control to take the water level of your aquarium/sump from the MIN Level up to the MAX Level of the Sensor. The MIN and MAX Levels can be shown by switching on the LEDs on the Smart Level Control.
Use a pump with an adequate delivery capacity, or a delivery capacity that can be adjusted.
If neither of these alternatives is possible, the delivery capacity of the top-up pump can be reduced by applying a valve to the delivery pipe of the pump to make sure the top-up time for the aquarium/sump is between 25 seconds and 10 minutes.
LEDs and Alarms
Alarm Water Level: Should the water reach "ALARM" level on the Sensor, the power supply of the top-up pump will be disabled, all the LEDs will come on, and an audible alarm will go off (short and repeated in rapid succession) until the water level drops below the ALARM Level. Please Note: This alarm may go off when the water is topped up in a shorter time than indicated or if the sensor is positioned incorrectly.
Max Top-up Time Exceeded: The Smart Level Control has a top-up control system set at a maximum of 10 minutes. If the MAX Level is not reached within 10 minutes, the power supply of the pump is disabled, along with the MIN, MAX, and ALARM LEDs and an audible alarm is activated (long and repeated in slow succession). This may occur if the pump is functioning dry, or if top-up time lasts for more than 10 minutes. In such cases, the Smart Level Control will shut down and must be restarted. To restart the system, press OFF and then ON.
Notes for Proper Installation
The water level of the top-up container must be lower than that of the aquarium.
Keep the delivery pipe from the top-up pump above the maximum desired water level, not to trigger a siphon effect.
If a fan is used to cool the surface of the water, do not direct the air flow towards the Sensor.
Avoid directing the flow of circulation pumps towards the Sensor.
The Sensor should be cleaned at least every three months. Remove any material that may have collected on the Sensor to ensure it functions correctly. The Sensor may be applied using different methods. It is up to the user to select and verify the suitability of any other methods used.
How the Hydor Smart Level Control Automatic Top Off System Works
The electronic sensor of the Hydor Smart Level Control Automatic Top Off System accurately monitors the water level of the sump or aquarium, maintaining it above the MIN Level and below the MAX Level. When the water level falls below the MIN Level, the Hydor Smart Level Control Automatic Top Off System will automatically top-up the sump or aquarium to the MAX Level. When activated, the ALARM sensor immediately blocks top-up and sets off an audible alarm.
