Tips for a Successful Nano Reef Aquarium

Avoid overstocking - Select the smallest fish possible, taking into consideration their adult or maximum size and introduce only a few fish at a time over a period of several weeks.
Let nature work for your aquarium's health. Use live rock and/or sand to supplement and foster natural biological filtration.
Make daily testing and observation an absolute necessity as small-volume aquariums are susceptible to fluctuating water quality.
Perform small water changes of about 10-20% weekly to help maintain good water quality.
Change your filter media according to the manufacturer's guidelines to avoid algae and to keep your fish healthy and stress-free.
Observe daily, test often, and always remedy the problems you discover within the same day as little problems can quickly become big problems in small enclosed ecosystems.

Installation Tips
Choosing a Location
Start: Choose your desired locations for the aquarium.

Weight: If you choose not to use the manufacturer's stand, please ensure your surface can support the weight of the tank and all of the tank's future appliances including water, décor and livestock. Keep in mind the average weight of water is 10 lbs per gallon, plus the weight of the rock, gravel, and other accessories, so the RL-45 can weigh potentially over four hundred and fifty pounds, if not more.

*Handling Precautions
Do not attempt to move a full or partially full aquarium. Do not use cleaners that contain ammonia to clean the glass surface. Always lift and carry the empty aquarium from underneath, not the sides.

Sunlight: If placed in an area that receives direct sunlight daily, this could affect aquarium water temperature, evaporation and nuisance algae growth.

Creating a Secure Area for your Future Livestock
The location of the tank should also be determined by the room's light, temperature, and traffic. One of your goals is to provide your fish with a stable, secure environment. This is much easier to do if you can control these factors.

The stand is a little cheap for the price I ended up reinforcing it myself. UPS broke the first two tanks but Dr Foster has great customer service and shipped out replacements right away. 3rd time was the charm. June 1, 2016

Rated 5 out of 5 by srwmemphis Great package aquarium This is an awesome complete aquarium setup. It is very high quality and looks great. It is quiet and everything is in one nice neat package. There is still room in the filtration area behind the tank for probes and other small equipment. I purchased the stand too and it is good quality except they cut about a 6" square hole in the side of the stand for a water chiller vent. If you don't have a water chiller you are left with a hole in the side of the stand. Other than that, everything is fantastic. I have had it for a month and I am very happy with it. May 28, 2016

Rated 5 out of 5 by fsushopper 4 weeks strong So far I have had this 45 gallon tank up for 4 weeks, so I can't say long term how it is doing. I did receive the first tank broken, so it was immediately replaced with no problems. The powerheads work well, but not very strong (which is expected in all in one tanks). I will have to replace the media baskets, they are hard to open, and not the greatest. The tank allows ample room for lots of live rock and a deep sandbed. The stand, like others have said, is a bit wobbly which makes me nervous, but is doing a good job. I will be reinforcing it to ease my fears a bit. I wasnt sure how much to fill my tank to ensure proper filtration, but i filled it up to ensure no microbubbles from the powerheads. I enjoy the availability for customization of the lights, and adding protein skimmers. the glass lids are a bit cumbersome to move often, but allow a beautiful rimless look and full protection from possible jumpers.
