Innovative hang-on-back power filter with 5-stage aquarium filtration
Mechanical, chemical, biological filtration plus UV & surface skimming
Great UV filter for freshwater or marine aquariums & quarantine tanks
Revolutionary 5-stage power filter takes aquarium filtration to a new level of convenience. AquaTop PFUV Elite Series Power Filter with UV allows hobbyists of all skill levels to enjoy the extreme convenience of a hang-on-back filter PLUS UV sterilization AND surface skimming without additional equipment or complicated plumbing. Great for use with freshwater or marine aquariums and an invaluable addition to any quarantine regimen.
AquaTop PFUV Elite Series Power Filter with UV features an internal UV Sterilizer to help control unwanted green water algae blooms and to eradicate free-floating parasites such as Ich. Self-adjusting, built-in surface skimmer removes surface debris and oil to maximize gas exchange essential for maintaining optimal oxygen levels. CE Listed. For freshwater or saltwater aquarium use.
NOTE: PF15-UV and PF25-UV will not fit aquarium rim with a thickness exceeding 3/4".
NOTE: Be sure the UV Sterilizer Bulb Cover is fastened tightly to the UV unit itself.
Remove the PF-UV Filter from box and check for any signs of damage.
Rinse the Filter Box, Filter Lid, and Accessory Plumbing Pieces with clean water. Dry with a soft cloth. Do not rinse any electrical components.
Rinse the Filter Cartridge of carbon dust. This is done until the run-off water is clear.
Hang the PF-UV Unit from the desired side of the aquarium. The electrical cords should be on the outside of the aquarium.
Connect the Intake Tube to the Filter Housing by placing the Tube Seat in top of the Rotor.
Connect the Strainer to the Connection Tube and set the length. Attach to the Surface Skimmer.
Insert AquaTop Filter Cartridge.
Use the PF-UV Filter Elevator to adjust how the unit sits against the aquarium wall (located on the bottom margin of the PF-UV Filter Box). The Filter Box should be parallel to the aquarium wall. AquaTop recommends using a professional grade level to assist in this task.
Fill the PF-UV unit with clean water and place Filter Box Cover in place.
Connect the UV Bulb Power Cord to its independent power source.
Plug in the PF-UV Filter Pump and UV Sterilizer Bulb. Make a Drip Loop for each cord plugged into an electrical outlet.
Your AquaTop PFUV Elite Series Power Filter with UV provides multistage filtration (mechanical, chemical, UV clarification and surface skimming) as well as optional bio-media to enhance the biological stability of your aquarium. The beneficial bacteria will eventually turn the white bio-media brown. This is normal and expected. The brown color indicates the presence of beneficial bacteria. Bio-media should never need to be replaced and/or changed out; doing so will eliminate the current amount of beneficial bacteria living on the bio-media.
To use the bio-media, remove from bag, rinse with clean, plain water and add to the filter. Add the bio-media to the compartment in between the UV Shield and the spillway. The UV Shield houses the UV Bulb and the spillway is where aquarium water exits the filter and flows back into the aquarium.
Maintenance of bio-media is simple and includes a few basic steps. Maintenance should be performed when the bio-media becomes impacted with organics or debris. When working with the bio-media, long-term exposure to air will compromise the bacterial colony. Keep the bio-media wet to avoid loss of beneficial bacteria.
Step 1: Remove bio-media from filter and place into a fish-safe container. Step 2: Add aquarium water to the fish-safe container and gently rinse the bio-media. If the aquarium water becomes extremely dirty, dispense of it and start the process over with new aquarium water. HINT: Use the water from the tank during a routine partial water change. Step 3: Return the bio-media to the filter.
NOTE: The UV unit on your filter will help control green water caused by algae. Since the amount of algae in each aquarium will vary based on the nutrient levels in the water and the amount and type of lighting, the UV unit can be manually turned OFF or ON independent of the other filtration functions. Some experimentation may be required to find the correct "on time" for your situation. Depending on the number of hours per day, the nominal effectiveness of the UV Bulb will vary. AquaTop recommends replacing the bulb every 6-9 months.

Unlike natural aquatic systems, toxic compounds accumulate quickly in an enclosed aquarium system. Without a natural means to efficiently remove these toxic compounds or wastes, conventional aquariums are dependent upon filtration devices.
There are three basic types of aquarium filter media and each performs a different job to help keep a clean and healthy aquarium environment. This article gives a basic overview of the three main types of filter media.
