Universal Motor Instruction Manual
(For Model Numbers: 76076, 76111, 78005, 78015, 78705, & 78715.)
Use voltage specified on appliance, A.C. or D.C. for all cycles. This appliance has been made with extreme care. It has been thoroughly tested and inspected at every stage of its manufacture and assembly. As with most precision instruments, the last polish on the running parts, which bear upon each other, comes only after a period of "breaking-in" - in this case 4 to 6 weeks.
If the speed of the motor varies (indicated by a change in sound), it is normally the result of a change in the position of the appliance or a fluctuation in your line of voltage. When the appliance is lubricated in accordance with instructions, it will deliver ample power and speed for professional hair-cutting requirements.
Oil only if motor develops a "squeal" to a dry bearing. Add only one drop of lightweight, non-detergent motor oil into ball-type bearing oilers. Adding more oil is harmful. Do not use a detergent oil, it drives the oil out of the bearing and does not provide adequate lubrication. Use Oster Premium Lubricating Oil.
Over-greasing can cause leakage and reduce the operating efficiency of the clipper. Check once a month by removing metal nameplate. Then remove nylon lever, metal link, and gear. Insert grease tube nozzle into hole on top of Gear post. Replace Link and Gear and add a small amount of grease to the teeth of Gear and Link. Use ONLY Oster Electric Clipper Grease. This grease is required in double insulated clippers and recommended in all of the Oster clippers because of its insulative properties.
NOTE: Add very little grease and only when necessary.
Brushes must be inspected and replaced periodically to ensure maximum motor performance and life expectancy. UNPLUG the clipper from the power outlet when inspecting or replacing Brushes to prevent an electrical shock.
To remove a Brush on models with a Slotted Brush Cap - Unscrew the Brush Cap (a dime is an excellent tool for this purpose) and remove the Nylon Insulator Cap. Remove the brass cap by applying slight pressure to the sides of the cap with a fingernail in a picking fashion.
Remove the Brush and spring assembly and compare the length of the round sections of the brush. When the square section has been reduced to the length of the round section, the brush must be replaced to prevent possible damage to the motor armature.
Always replace the Brushes as a set (2 Brushes), even though only one may be at or below required length. When re-installing the Brush, make certain that the sharp corners of the Brush are aligned with the triangular notches in the brass cap and the nylon cap over the Brush spring. Press down to seat the brass cap into the brush tube. Replace the slotted outer cap and screw down tightly to prevent loosening.
Use Oster Brushes:
Avoid substitutes. Brushes used in electric motors are carefully selected for size and grade to obtain maximum, trouble-free performance.
Oster cutting blades are of individual, hollow-ground design, hardened to extend cutting life. As with any cutting instrument, the cutting edges will become dull with usage. Increasing blade tension to force dull blades to cut can cause the clipper to heat and reduce motor life, further shortening blade life. When the cutting blades no longer cut smooth and clean, sharpening is necessary.
When sharpening blades becomes necessary, send blades to Oster or an Authorized Service Center where approved methods, equipment, and proper knowledge are used to restore the original hollow-ground design and best cutting ability. Sharpening blades by flat grinding or any method contrary to the design and construction of Oster cutting blades is not recommended.
To Remove: Stop motor, lift blade away from clipper, and slide off tongue.
To Replace: Insert blade on tongue fully, and then snap blade into place.
Oiling and Cleaning Blades: Apply Oster Premium Lubricating Oil on blades several times daily to maintain a slight film of oil on mating surfaces of the blades and tension spring guide.
To clean, turn appliance on and submerge the cutting blades in Oster Blade Wash Cleaner. Never place or drop in water or other liquids, except Oster cleaning and oiling products.
Wipe the outside surfaces of the blade with a dry, clean cloth and begin clipping again. If after cleaning with Oster Blade Wash cleaner, your blade still does not cut properly, it is possible very fine hair did not wash out from between the blades.
If this is the case, it is necessary to remove the blade set from the clipper. Without loosening the tension spring screws, slide the upper blade to one side but not completely out from under tension spring, and wipe the mating surfaces clean. Place a drop of oil on the mating surfaces and in the tension spring guide slot. Slide upper blade to the other side and repeat process. Slide the upper blade back into position and reassemble clipper. With the clipper running, lubricate the blades with a light coat of Oster Kool-Lube lubricant or a drop or two of Oster Premium Lubricating Oil.
Maintenance and Storage:
