Hay is for Small Pets

Thanks to its great flavors, entertaining textures, and essential nutrients, hay has always been a favorite of small pets. Rabbits, chinchillas, and guinea pigs need hay as their primary food. Rats, mice, and hamsters do not require hay, but enjoy it as a supplementary food.

hay-ealthy benefits

  • High-fiber, low-protein grass hays support healthy digestion. Fiber bulks up stool and enhances its normal motion through the digestive tract.
  • Regular chewing action wears down small pets' continually growing teeth and helps prevent dental problems.
  • Hay stimulates enriching natural behaviors such as foraging and grazing.

hay favorites

Timothy Hay, the most common grass hay, is essential for adult rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas. Our Signature Series Premium Western Timothy Hay offers healthy nutrients and amazing flavor.

A legume hay (not a grass hay), Alfalfa Hay contains higher values of protein and calcium than Timothy Hay and is recommended for young, growing rabbits, guinea pigs, and chinchillas.

Other varieties of hay, such as Oat Hay, Organic Meadow Hay, and Orchard Grass Hay offer occasional variety to satisfy rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, and other small pets.
