I love my chinchillas I have 3 of them. This pregnancy was not planned, she came to me in this state to my surprise. Life is good the chinnys are happy and healthy. My concern is the 4 tier cage they are in. I've done alot of research and have read that babies can fit into a 1 inch by 1 inch. The bottom of the cage I believe is escapeable for a baby. In the past I have wrapped wire around this space only to have the male think of it as a game and he got it all off already. He is very smart. To solve my problem with the 4 tier cage I bought a smaller one with smaller holes so that the baby when it comes would be safe. This didn't work out. Mom didn't seem happy or relaxed and I felt the cage was too small for her. Yesterday I moved her back into the big cage with the bigger bars. She was so happy to be back in her own home. I don't think a breed back is healthy so I have decided to move the male out when the time comes for two weeks. Which brings me back to the bar spacing on the big cage. I feel like I am rambling on. Does anyone have any suggestions?
