What is RenaKare?
RenaKare is prescription potassium gluconate used as an oral supplement for animals with potassium deficiency. Low blood potassium is a serious condition and animals with prolonged vomiting or diarrhea should be seen by a veterinarian.

Who is it for?
RenaKare is for multiple species including dogs.

RenaKare is prescription potassium gluconate used to treat low blood potassium levels, often occurring as a result of kidney disease. Potassium is an electrolyte necessary to maintain almost all cellular functions, including the transmission of nerve impulses and the contraction of muscles. RenaKare is available in gel, tablet, and powder form.

How does RenaKare work?
RenaKare treats hypokalemia by providing a source of potassium.

Is there a generic equivalent available?
No

How is it given?
RenaKare potassium oral supplements are given by mouth. Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian. This medication should only be given to the pet for whom it was prescribed.

What results can I expect?
RenaKare will help to bring the potassium in the blood and in the cells back to normal. It may take several days of treatment to achieve that. In most cases, RenaKare will need to be given long-term.
