How the Scat Mat Works: The Scat Mat is a touch sensitive pad. The electronics (in the snap on black Power Pack) convert 9-volt battery power into a series of sparks similar to static electricity. These sparks are sent to the mat for three seconds whenever the on board circuitry detects that it has been touched. Cat paws effectively complete the circuit and cause the sensation to be felt. The Activation counter is incremented and the unit returns to passive sensing mode. The amount of energy dispensed is adjustable using one of the three static levels: The low setting is for kittens, the medium setting is for cats, and the high setting is for cats with thick fur or tougher footpads. Remember to use discretion with your own cat. If there is more than one location where the cat is showing undesirable activity, all locations must be included. Please place the Scat Mat two feet before the spot in question. The Scat Mat can also be used on automobiles. In hot and humid conditions, place a sheet underneath the mat to prevent water spots from forming on mat. Dummy Mats are used once the cat consistently avoids the area with the Scat Mat. Place the Dummy Mat down where the Scat Mat has been. If the cat starts to go on the Dummy Mat, place the Scat Mat down again and try leaving it down for a longer amount of time.

Note: The Scat Mat will stop working when it becomes wet, but once dry, it will work again. Mat and Strips are water-resistant, and can withstand temperatures down to 0°F. Scat Mats are UV stabilized.

Maintenance: The mats may be cleaned with mild soapy water. When storing the mat, roll it up and place in the same cardboard core that it arrived in. This will protect the mat from bending or creasing which would damage the conductive leads in the mat. A two-year warranty is offered through the manufacturer.
