API Phos-Zorb 5.25 mesh bag
Works as advertised
The short and simple story here is that API's Phos-Zorb does what it says it will do: remove phosphates, as well as silicates.
I have an established 36-gallon planted goldfish tank that's been plagued by diatoms for months. The diatoms/brown algae love to anchor themselves on leaf surfaces of most of my broad-leafed plants, i.e. anubias, echinodorus bleheri (Amazon swords), etc., thanks in part to the high-ish mineral content of the hard water in my neighborhood.
Phos-Zorb is an easy to use, plug-n-play product; after rinsing off a new pack I simply placed Phos-Zorb at the top of my filter where it's in the highest flow area.
While my phosphate levels weren't ever high enough to be of great concern I nevertheless wanted to reduce them as much as possible to help combat the diatom issue (as best I understand how phosphates are involved in the process of creating an environment favorable for diatoms).
Two weeks now after first installing Phos-Zorb and my phosphate levels are as close to 0 ppm as I can tell by using API's phosphate-specific test kit. Additionally, silicate levels remain between 0 and 1.5 ppm according to Seachem's silicate-specific test kit, a significant reduction from the 6.0-plus ppm levels beforehand.
The salient point is that while the existing presence of diatoms hasn't entirely dissipated, Phos-Zorb appears to have severely stunted new growth of the brown algae/diatoms. Since first using the product, new growth leaves on my plants currently remain free of brown algae, whereas before using Phos-Zorb new growth leaves would've shown signs of flourishing brown algae within a two-week period.
*As a side note, using a higher quality food and reduced feeding amounts likely has also helped reduce phosphate levels in my tank.

Love it. This was a replacement and it worked great.

It drastically cuts down on my algae and when I finally start seeing algae, it's lighter in color and much easier to scrape off of the glass and ornaments.

Great Product with excellent results.
I have been using API phos zorb for close to 5 years now with better than excellent results. I was having this brown growth starting to form all over everything in my tank which was well established and couldn't figure out why. I learned these where diatoms caused by either high phosphate or high nitrate. I did 70% water change every week to keep the nitrates at low levels so it had to be the phosphate. I bought from DR Foster& Smith the complete API fresh water test kit and found there was no Nitrate in my water supply but a considerably high phosphate level. So I tried the API Phos Zorb and literally in days my problem was solved. This product is a God send and works extreimly well. It must be changed every 2 months which is a great time to service the filter as well. Highly recommended if your serious about your water quality.
