Stress Zyme + 16 fl oz - Treats 960 gallons 5 5 2 2

Excellent! I've been using this product for over 20yrs. and swear by it. Especially useful for "reseeding" new filter media. November 26, 2012

API stress zyme I have been using API stress zyme in all of my aquariums for over 15 years. Whenever you do a partial water change or even when your starting a new aquarium it adds millions of beneficial bacteria to the water to keep ammonia and nitrite in control. It also keeps water biologically correct and filter bacteria healthy and thriving. I swear by it and use it regularly. API is a very reputable company and I will continue to use their products for life. August 8, 2011

What's the difference between API Stress Coat and Stress Zyme, and do I need to add both to my aquarium?

Hi Beth,
Stress coat and Stress Zyme both do different jobs so absolutely add both. Stress coat adds aloe vera to the water to protect the fishes slime coat (which all fish have)also if the fish are injured stress coat will help to heal their injuries. Plus it takes out all of the chlorine and heavy metals found in our water supply, so the water is ready for fish life.
Stress Zyme helps the water to cycle faster and while doing so keeps ammonia and nitrites in check so fish wont stress out and die. Stress Zyme also helps the biological bacteria in your canister filter to establish faster which is a very good thing. I have been using both for many many years with excellent results and I suggest you do as well.

Thank you for your question. For established aquariums you need to add 1 teaspoon per 10 gallons of water. If you are doing 1/3 water change, you would be changing about 73 gallons of water. Therefore, you would need to add approximately 7-1/2 teaspoons (or 1-1/4 oz) to the new water. However, we generally do not recommend doing such large water changes as larger water changes can actually remove beneficial bacteria from your tank. Usually a 20% water change is sufficient. If you decide to go with a 20% water change you would be changing 44 gallons of water and would need to add about 4.5 teaspoons (or ¾ oz) to the new water.
