Installation Instructions:
Installation should be performed by a certified, licensed professional electrician.
Disconnect the line voltage (power applied to the ballast) before installing or replacing the ballast or lamps. Always disconnect the power before making any adjustments.
It is recommended that the ballast be wired to a switch-controlled junction box. The ballast must be grounded. Match the polarity of the wiring into the junction box as follows:
POLARITY
COLOR CODE
Hot
Black
Neutral
White
Ground
Green
Be sure the total lamp length does not exceed the recommendations for each model.
Carefully follow the appropriate wiring diagram when connecting the ballast to the lamps.
NOTE: The jumper wire can be produced by cutting and stripping a small length of excess wire from the provided harness. The jumper wires should be AWG#18 Solid TFN wire.
Before applying power to the ballast, check that all connections are secure and in accordance with the wiring diagram. DO NOT APPLY POWER TO THE BALLAST BEFORE ALL OF THE LAMPS ARE PROPERLY INSTALLED.
Protect the ballast from direct exposure to water, moisture and heat. For aquatic applications, ballasts should be installed in a location with sufficient air flow to permit cooling. In addition, the ballast should be mounted above the waterline. (For non-aquatic applications, the ballast should be mounted on a metal surface.) In all applications, avoid mounting the ballast inside the light fixture next to the lamps.
Ensure that VHO style end caps are properly wired and positioned. Use end caps that are UL listed, hard plastic, watertight and mounted. USE OF RUBBER END CAPS WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY.
The small four-pin connection (I/O port) is for use with dimmer and/or timer. Do not use the I/O port for any other purpose. Failure to follow this warning could pose a hazard and will void your warning.
If all lamps do not light within a few seconds, disconnect the power and then the ballast. Re-examine all connections. IceCap ballasts have an internal shutdown protection circuit that detects defective lamps and improper connections to the end caps. The ballast will not operate until the circuit is connected and the power is reapplied. Do not operate the ballast with an incomplete circuit.
NOTE: An incomplete circuit could be caused by a defective lamp or a lamp improperly seated in an end cap. Also note that an improperly seated lamp will not flash when power is applied to the ballast.
