Thank you for your question. For general reef lighting, Actinic White (50/50) bulbs can be exclusively used. For lighting, we recommend a total of 3-5 watts per gallon depending on the requirements of the corals you intend to keep. Regardless of the lighting type and wattage used, it is however still possible for algae to grow if there are phosphates present in the water. Phosphate levels can be controlled through the use of an RO system, as well as adding a phosphate remover to your filtration.
