What is the life cycle of fleas?
There are four stages in the development of fleas: eggs and adults. Male and female fleas mate and two days later the female flea starts laying eggs. The eggs are often laid on the animal, but because they are not sticky, fall off into the environment. Along with the eggs, the female flea deposits a large amount of feces (often called "flea dirt"). The flea dirt will dissolve into a red color when moistened; this is because it is primarily digested blood. The flea lays 30-50 eggs per day, generally in batches of 3 to 15. A flea can produce 400-1,000 eggs in her lifetime (several months to two years, depending on the species). Two days (or more depending on temperature) after the egg is laid it hatches and the larva, which looks like a tiny maggot, starts to feed on the feces left by its mother. The larva passes through several phases of development taking a total of about a week. At that time, the larvae starts spinning a cocoon and is called a pupa. The cocoon is sticky and will often become covered with fine dirt or sand, and can be found deep in carpeting or crevices. In one week, the pupa develops into an adult and emerges from the cocoon when it senses vibrations, carbon dioxide, or warmth which tell it an animal host is near. The entire life cycle takes about 15 days, but the pupa can remain dormant under inhospitable conditions (e.g., cold) and extend the cycle to over a year. This is important to remember when planning flea control.

Works GREAT! I think it works better than even the new Biospot. Even though it costs more, it's well WORTH IT!
I have several cats that had fleas for almost a year. One cat was scratching and licking all its hair out, beacause it was very sensitive to the fleas. I was regularly giving flea baths (not fun), flea combing, and spray bombing the house to try and get rid of them. I was using the cheap over-the counter flea drops; not knowing there was any product much better.
A friend finally mentioned Advantage. What a difference with complete and immediate results! My pets were happy, I was happy, and my home was rid of fleas. I realized how much time and money I wasted constantly buying the cheap stuff, grooming my cats, and alot of extra house cleaning. I actually spent much more time & money- and my pets were still miserable.
Now I use Advantage from spring thru fall every year, when the fleas are present and I occaisionally let the cats out in the backyard. Well worth the cost!! Thanks Advantage!!
We adopted a kitten that was so covered with fleas that you could see them crawling across his face. He was treated with Advantage® and the next day there was no trace of fleas.
Don't waste time or money with any other product. This works wonders and the cats don't seem to mind it at all. We had a big flea problem this summer, and with 6 cats it was a nightmare of combing and vacuuming every day. I've used Biospot before but it didn't work well and the cats hated it when I put it on them. I took the plunge and spent the money on Advantage, and am I glad I did! WOW.
By the next day I couldn't find a flea on any of them, and they didn't seem to mind it a bit when I put it on. NO greasy spot, no smell, no bad reactions. AND best of all, no fleas!
I bought cheap flea treatment from the pet store, and it was only marginally effective. Shame on me for not doing my homework first! After some research, it sounded like Advantage was the way to go so I ordered from Drs. Foster Smith and it works wonderfully! No greasy spots on my cats' fur and the fleas are GONE. Two of them are outdoor cats so they will get monthly Advantage treatments from now on.
I have 3 cats... this past summer they became COVERED in fleas!!! Ive never seen soooo many of those pesty things in my life. I gave them bath after bath... combing and digging out fleas for hours each week!! It was awful!!! Then 2 of my cats had scratched and licked themselves til most of their fur was coming out and they were losing weight. It was so sad to see them suffer like that. I tried other flea treatments, with NO luck. Then I decided to give Advantage a try.... It was a TRUE BLESSING!!! My cats have been FLEA FREE ever since:)) All their fur came back, they have put on weight... and look happy and healthy again:))) Needless to say we are all HAPPY to be rid of all those fleas. I will ALWAYS use Advantage to keep my pets happy and healthy!!
I have used another well known flea control product for a long time. I don't know why, but the last application did not seem to be effective.. My four cats were suffering with the pests, and I was receiving bites as well. To my great frustration, in spite of using a flea comb and constantly vacuuming and cleaning up flea eggs by the hundreds from every place, the problem continued. I have bathed my cats in the past. This time, since they were already so stressed by the fleas, I did not want to subject them to baths. I decided to try Advantage, and within a few hours the fleas were dying and falling off. Not only that, after 24 hours I have not found even one flea egg anyplace! My fur friends are now able to rest well instead of constantly scratching. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND ADVANTAGE. P.S. I also liberally sprinkled table salt over all carpeting and worked in well. Now, when I walk through the house, no newly hatched fleas jump on my feet.
We recently had a flea infestation. My poor kitty was so miserable! We kept giving him baths every other week and he very much disliked it. Once the house was completely infested also I decided to flea bomb. It was so nice the very first night after the bomb. We didn't see any fleas! However, my cat went and stayed the night with a friend that night and when he came home the next day (still with his fleas) it was back to square one. Finally when the Advantage came in the mail and we put it on him that night, within the next 2 days I was completely amazed. WE DON'T HAVE FLEAS ANYMORE! None. Zip. Siltch. I love it. P.s. Don't EVER use the cheap over the counter at the pet store flea drops. They're terrible. We used them once and when the liquid touched my kitty's skin he FLIPPED. When we put the Advantage on him, he didn't even notice. They're NOT good for your kitty.
