How the Scat Mat Works: The Scat Mat is a touch sensitive pad. The electronics (in the snap on black Power Pack) convert 9-volt battery power into a series of sparks similar to static electricity. These sparks are sent to the mat for three seconds whenever the on board circuitry detects that it has been touched. Dog paws effectively complete the circuit and cause the sensation to be felt. The Activation Counter is incremented and the unit returns to passive sensing mode. The amount of energy dispensed is adjustable using one of the three static levels: The low setting is for puppies, the medium setting is for small dogs, and the high setting is for dogs with thick fur or tougher footpads. Remember to use discretion with your own dog. If there is more than one location where the dog is showing undesirable activity, all locations must be included. Please place the Scat Mat two feet before the spot in question. The Scat Mat can also be used on automobiles. In hot and humid conditions, place a sheet underneath the mat to prevent water spots from forming on mat. Dummy Mats are used once the dog consistently avoids the area with the Scat Mat. Place the Dummy Mat down where the Scat Mat has been. If the dog starts to go on the Dummy Mat, place the Scat Mat down again and try leaving it down for a longer amount of time.

Note: The Scat Mat will stop working when it becomes wet, but once dry, it will work again. Mat and Strips are water-resistant, and can withstand temperatures down to 0°F. Scat Mats are UV stabilized.

Maintenance: The mats may be cleaned with mild soapy water. When storing the mat, roll it up and place in the same cardboard core that it arrived in. This will protect the mat from bending or creasing which would damage the conductive leads in the mat. A two-year warranty is offered through the manufacturer.

This Scat Mat saved my couch, and my sanity. My 4 year old neutered male cat had decided my new couch was his new litter box-one 48" long mat was enough to cover across 3 cushions nicely on an 84" couch. On the middle setting, he jumps right off but doesn't run off, so its not too rough.

This mat saved my cats from the humane society. I was at my wits end with them urinating all over my couches. I could'nt get the odor out, so i had to buy new furniture. A friend used these to keep her cats out of her newborn's room and it worked for her too. The secret is to camouflage them because cats are very intelligent. I used a denim table cloth to cover them so that they didn't know they were there, and once they were trained I took them off.
