I have put this in with our guineas, and they don't seem impressed. I will be giving it to one of our buns to see what they do with it. It is great quality, and if buns like it, will certainly get again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Heartwings not bad, they like it
I have one for my mice and one for my rats. They will pull out the original cotton rope pretty fast, but you can "reload" it with whatever you have on hand- twine, rope, yarn scraps, fleece strips etc. It will not last long if your pet is an active wood chewer though as it's not that big, but if they have fun chewing off the rope & using it for nesting material they may get hours of fun with this if you "reload" it and they keep removing the rope rather than chewing the wood. My rats like it more than the mice like theirs. If your rats (or whatever) are big time wood chewers it will not last long, but given the price not a huge deal for the fun they have. F&S needs to stop selling things with all that dye though, it has nothing to do with the fun! Sell more NATURAL things!

Though it is not the absolute most popular toy in the cage, my rats do pay some attention to it when it's full. It at least serves its purpose for the price! I twist up strips of paper towel (their favorite nesting material) and thread them through until the whole thing is bristling with them. And since it's just a solid block of wood, I don't have to worry about them shredding it up or breaking it.

While the product itself is of good quality, there's one thing I take issue with which is the absurd amount of dye on this thing. It's to the point that the cotton sticking out of it is tinged red in places, and like other overly colored toys and food for rats (and other animals) I feel it completely unnecessary and unhealthy for both people and animals alike.
Dye jobs aside, the overall quality of the toy is great, but my rats have very little interest in it. For the first week they wouldn't even nibble on it let alone touch the cotton sticking out of it. Once they started paying attention to it they began tearing the cotton out but then got bored of it yet again.
Ultimately, the ratties were completely disinterested whether it was hanging or set at the bottom of their cage. I would not purchase this again, but to no fault of the product. Perhaps someone else's pets would enjoy this more than mine. :)
