Rated 5 out of 5 by Noel11 We purchased the deluxe whistle, it immediately worked!
I think some of the other reviews were erroneous. There are two sides to the whistle. One in which you adjust the screw for the correct frequency. The other, which has the slight line/cut of metal is actually a cover. If you pull that side off it reveals the actual whistle portion. For those having difficulties using this product, please try pulling the cover off the correct side. Good luck!

Followed the published directions, and it worked instantly with my 3 year old mini golden doodle. For those who had problems: do not expect this to work well or at all with older or deaf dogs. If adjusted properly, most people can't hear it (ultrasonic, but dogs can), it sounds mostly like air hissing to me. It helps that I have an understanding of both physics and organ pipes. Those who complain that there is no hole must not understand. Blow fairly forcefully into the end with the waist shape, not the side or the end with the adjustment screw, do not cover the whistle open mouth hole in the side with your lips or fingers (which one might do as the pipe is very small). Of course don"t spit into it or block the end with your lips or tongue, there is some simple technique to it after all. This is like a very tiny organ pipe or school recorder/flutaphone. The hard part for me now is to use this to train the dog and myself to respond as I wish. He notices every time I blow the whistle, and usually he will come to me upon which he gets a treat and praise. But often he is doing something more interesting to him like exploring off lease, barking, or jumping on visitors. So we are working on those things and using the whistle to mark the correct behaviors. I never liked or used clickers much, but this seems to work well for us. I ordered two by mistake, but it is good to have a spare as they are very reasonably priced.

Rated 4 out of 5 by thisshouldnotberequired This product does what I want it to do.
I have a lab that often fails to pay attention to the recall command, because she focuses on smells and sights around her. When I blow the metal whistle, it snaps her back to focus on me. Then she listens to my recall command. She had also started ignoring my whistling (with lips) for her. Since using the metal whistle, she pays attention more often when I whistle for her now. Overall, the metal whistle has done what I wanted it to do, and I will continue to use it as a training tool.

Bought this for my dog who is going deaf. No matter how I turned it, she didn't hear it. She does hear some sounds, and can hear a regular whistle, so I don't know why she didn't hear this. My other dog heard it and so did I. Really wanted something that only dogs can hear and not the whole neighborhood.
