I have been searching for a piece of equipment to get rid of the oily film on top of the water of my 60 gallon tank and this worked great. Setup was very easy and within 30 minutes the film was gone. This skimmer also provides added flow to the aquarium (~80 gph) which was enough that I removed a circulation pump from the tank so that it also simplified my setup.
I had previously tried Eheim's surface extractor and was unhappy with it. It cleared the surface film, but had a tendency to suck up small fish and has a valve that clatters (this clattering valve is even mentioned in the manual that came with the equipment).

Does what it is designed to do.
This Skimmer works great ! It will have the surface of your tank clear in minutes. The downside is that it can clog easily which means you have to take it apart and rinse out the little sponger pre filter that is inside it. I find myself doing this at least once a week on my 75 gallon planted tank. This would not be so bad if it were easier to disassemble inside the aquarium. As it you must take it out to take it apart; when you do this the little suction cups can come unattached from the unit itself making something that should be simple more of a pain.
Despite its flaws it works great ! I like the fact that it is a stand alone unit and does not have to be attached to a filter like others on the market.

This Thing Really Works!
I've been using the Eheim Skim350 Surface Skimmers on all my tanks for quite a while now, and I must say I'm very impressed with them. They are the quietest surface skimmers I have ever used, nearly dead silent, and they do an excellent job of clearing the water surface of debris and protein scum, thus improving surface gas exchange greatly. The only drawback to this skimmer is the foam filter inside the unit is very small, which means it needs to be cleaned fairly often, however, removing and cleaning the foam is not at all difficult, and only takes about a minute, so it's not really that big of a deal. One more thing, it's a good idea to unplug the skimmer when feeding your fish, otherwise the skimmer will eat more of the food than your fish do! All in all, I give this skimmer a 4 and a half star rating, due to the small foam filter in the unit. I highly recommend this skimmer to anyone who wants a clean, clear water surface in the aquarium.
