We have a 2013 3/4 ton GMC Silverado Crew Cab with bucket seats and console. I'm looking for a very sturdy barrier to keep our 120 lb German Shepherd confined to the back seat area when we're traveling. When we stop to eat or gas up he wants to go with us and is very insistent. The truck has leather interior so we do not want him to jump into the front seats and possibly rip them. The back seat is folded up to give him a spacious traveling area and he can't hurt the back seats.
A sling hammock is too fragile and doesn't cover enough of the area. He could easily break through all of the products that I've seen, thus far. I don't think any would be strong enough to do the job.
We have used a regular dog barrier but, we have to rig it with zip ties at a slant since my husband is 6'2' and needs his seat back much further than mine. It also is very hard on the truck interior and the seats can't be moved for the duration of the trip. That makes it a problem if we need to change drivers on long trips. It's quite a dilemma.
Throughout my ongoing search I've seen others looking for the solution to this same problem. This is a much needed product, especially with more and more of today's trucks, SUV's, and sports cars having the option of bucket seats with consoles, backseats, and leather interiors .
Whatever the product is, you would have to be able to adjust the front seats for comfort and safety and without wrecking your interior.
Hopefully manufacturers will wake up and eventually design a sturdy product that fills this gap (literally) in the many vehicles offered today with bucket seats and console.
