How does Hexadene® Shampoo work?
Chlorhexidine is an antibacterial ingredient. The shampoo is antimicrobial and antiseptic. The chlorhexidine is contained within Spherulites which provide slow release of the ingredients.

Is there a generic equivalent available?
No generic products are available.

How is it given?
Shake well before use. Wet the hair coat with warm water and apply a sufficient amount of shampoo to create a rich lather. Massage shampoo into wet hair coat, lather freely. Rinse and repeat. Allow to remain on hair for 5 to 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with clean water. May be used as often as daily or as directed by your veterinarian. Frequency of use depends upon the disease and response to treatment.

Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian.

This medication should only be given to the pet for whom it was prescribed.

What should I discuss with my veterinarian while considering Hexadene® Shampoo for my pet?
Talk to your veterinarian about what type of outcome is expected. Have your veterinarian explain the other treatment options that may be available to treat your pet's condition. Tell your veterinarian if your pet develops skin irritation while using this product. If your pet's skin condition persists or no improvement is seen within 10 days, consult your veterinarian.

Notify your veterinarian of any other medications or supplements your pet is taking, or if your pet has had any reactions to previous medications.

Who should not take it?
Not for use in patients hypersensitive (allergic) to it or to similar products.

For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes or mucus membranes. Not for use in the ear.

Wash hands after use.

Consult with your veterinarian regarding the physical examinations and laboratory testing necessary prior to and during treatment with chlorhexidine shampoo.

What side effects may be seen when taking Hexadene® Shampoo?
None if used according to directions.

If skin irritation develops or increases, discontinue use and contact your veterinarian.

How is it stored?
Store in a tight, light resistant, childproof container at room temperature. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

What should I do if I know of or suspect there has been an overdose?
Adverse reactions and toxicities are unlikely.

If you know or suspect your pet has had an overdose, or if you observe any unusual signs, symptoms, or behaviors in your pet, contact your veterinarian immediately.

What should I avoid when giving my pet Hexadene® Shampoo?
Consult with your veterinarian before using chlorhexidine shampoo with any other medications, including vitamins and supplements, since interactions may occur.
