Sharps Containers

1 Quart Portable Sharps Container is designed to fit into blood drawing trays. Also provides point-of-use disposal and features a square base for added stability. Features convenient, "point first" drop for increased safety. Choice of single or dual openings accommodates a variety of sharps. Containers lock for final disposal and safe transport. 4-1/4" x 4" x 6-1/4" high.

2 Gallon Sharps Container has a wide, non-tortuous lid design that accommodates a variety of sharps. Translucent lids allow staff to identify fill-levels quickly, and each container locks for final disposal. 10-1/4" x 7" x 10" high.

Sharps Containers are specially-made containers used to contain hazardous "piercing" instruments and reduce the chance of spreading infection. It is standard practice in developed and even underdeveloped countries for used needles to be placed immediately into a sharps container after a single use, with only a few exceptions to the general rule. Needles are dropped into the container without touching the outside of the container. Needles should never be pushed or forced into the container, as damage to the container and/or needle stick injuries may result. Proper use of a sharps container includes pick up by or delivery to an approved "red bag" or medical waste treatment site. In addition to this pre-existing safety measure, all U.S. medical and educational staff are federally required to be tested on their knowledge of blood-borne pathogens.
