Vet Ointment Puralube, 3.5 gram tube
Special Needs Cat
I rescued Chuck from the woods behind our home in 2007. He was at least 2 years old. His left eyelid does not close but the membrane closes enough to keep his eye covered when he sleeps. His vet thought he may have had an ear infection when he was a kitten in the woods. The nerve along that side of his face was most likely damaged.
The vet who neutered him suggested using an ointment or drops to preserve his eye and keep the membrane moist. So far, his eye is fine and he can see out of it. The membrane is still thick and moves easily over his eye. Hopefully, continued use of the Puralube will keep his eye healthy and prevent its removal. The price is reasonable and it's easier to use than drops. Since Chuck is so cooperative, it must feel good on his eye.

Great eye lubricant for cats, BUT
One of my cats has chronic eye problems which require that I put ointment in his eyes 3 times a day. This ointment works fine and keeps his eyes moist. The problem is that it shoots out of the tube in big gobs (I live at high altitude) and most of it is wasted. A tube lasts less than a week. Often there are air bubbles in the tube so that it is not entirely full of eye lubricant.
