Inspect UV Lamp & Quartz Sleeve Prior to Installation
Upon receiving this product, please loosen the quartz sleeve cover and inspect the quartz sleeve and lamp for any damage. Close attention should be observed to the UV lamp & Quartz Sleeve prior to use. Please contact FosterandSmithAquatics if your product is found damaged.

Installation into JBJ 28 gal Nano Cube Series
The NanoZapp is the perfect complement to the 28g Nano-Cube Aquarium; you can enjoy the benefits of sterilization while the NanoZapp is discreetly hidden.

Remove one of the pumps.
Measure and cut included hose.
Connect NanoZapp to hose.
Plug into electrical outlet.

Installation into a Non JBJ Nano Cube
The NanoZapp™ was designed for the 28g Nano Cube Aquarium, but it is so versatile that it can be used with most nano aquariums on the market. Each end of the sterilizer is installed with a 1/2" diameter connector. The total length of the NanoZapp is 8 inches. Remove your existing pump/hose and connect securely. You will need to measure and cut the included 1/2" hose.

Flow Rate: Requires a flow rate of 100-225 gallons per hour.

Cleaning
It is important to keep this appliance clean. Always unplug the appliance before performing maintenance or cleaning of the pre-filter sponge, pump, and quartz sleeve. Make sure hands are completely dry before re-plugging into an electrical outlet.

Cleaning the Quartz Sleeve - Monthly
The Quartz Sleeve acts as a barrier between the water and the UV-C lamp to maintain proper operating temperatures and allow for a 99% transmission rate. Cleaning the Quartz Sleeve is crucial to the UV's success and should be performed monthly.

Step 1: Unplug pump and NanoZapp from electrical outlet.

Step 2: Unscrew the black quartz sleeve cover (counterclockwise).

Step 3: Clean any unwanted algae and debris from the outside of the quartz sleeve.

Note: Vinegar may be used to remove calcium deposits on the exterior of the quartz sleeve. Clean residual off before re-installing.

Replacing the UV-C Lamp - 6 to 9 months
The UV-C lamp has an average life span of 5,000 hours of operation. Although the lamp may illuminate, it will not perform effectively for disease control. Lamp should be replaced before it expires. You can check the status of the lamp by an illuminated blue color at the bottom of the NanoZapp.

Step 1: Twist off black quartz sleeve cover (counterclockwise).

Step 2: Gently pull quartz sleeve out.

Step 3: Unplug the UV-C lamp and plug in new lamp.

JBJ NanoZapp Inline UV Sterilizer 3-Watts 2.7 5 3 3

So Far So Great I ordered this product for my 28 gallon nanocube freshwater set up. I was about a month or so into the nitrogen cycle and had a green water algae bloom. I tried a liquid algae product but online research said that it wouldn't really work. I researched the nanozap and it was priced right here on Fosters and Smith so I ordered it. Installation was fairly simple. I had to cut the tubing a little bit shorter than the instructions say but it is securely in place between the pump and the jet tubing so that the sterilizer would sit perfectly straight in the pump housing. When I cut the tubing to the length in the instructions it was installed on a slight angle. I am not sure of the build quality as it was installed a couple of weeks ago. The housing middle piece screws together securely where the top piece and bottom piece kind of just fit into each other and come apart fairly easily. Maybe it is designed that way for cleaning, water flow etc... Some reviews said it might be a good idea to use clamps to hold it in place. I don't see how that would be necessary if installed in a nanocube because once installed it is securely in place and should not be able to come apart or move without a lot of physical force. That may be a good idea in other tanks but you shouldn't have to use clamps in the 28 gallon nanocube. Within 24 hours of installation the water had cleared up quite a bit and by the end of the second day it was very clear. I will see how it holds up over time and change the bulb at the recommended interval but so far I could not be more pleased with the performance of the product and would HIGHLY recommend it. Dr. Fosters and Smith had the best price I could find so you may as well order here if you like the reviews. August 20, 2012

Must Be Submerged I attempted to plumb this "inline" with my chiller return. It leaks from many areas. The product does function as advertised if plumbed within the JBJ Nanocube filter return line, which is submerged. This was not the ideal setup that I was looking to use. If you need to have this on a non-submerged return line, this is not the right product. You will need to spend quite a bit more for a Biocube UV sterilizer that advertises true inline capability. In defense of this product, neither in advertisement or in the manual does it ever say that it can be plumbed externally inline. March 20, 2012

Absolute Junk! I purchased this item several weeks ago, after installing it, the unit leaked from the threads that connects both pieces together. After putting some plumbers tape around that to correct the problem, the next morning I noticed the light not working. If I unplugged and plugged it back in, the light would stay on for about 30 seconds. I decided I needed to return this unit. No problem, they sent me another one... As soon as I installed the new one the darn thing leak in every conceivable spot on the unit! :( March 30, 2012

Yes, the JBJ NanoZapp will work with a canister filter. In order to do so, you must insert (plumb) the NanoZapp
into the return tube of your canister filter. The NanoZapp is 8 inches long, so if you cut 8 inches of tube
from your canister's output tube, then insert the NanoZapp between the remaining two sections of your output tube, all you must do now is to plug the NanoZapp's ballast into an ac socket, and you've installed your av sterilizer.

The entire procedure should take you less than 15 minutes provided that you have valve taps which can be used to block the water from flowing through your filter's output tube while you're doing the installation.. Either that or just disconnect the canister and move it to a sink to drain out the water and then follow the above directions.

I had the same problem, not only leaking from the threads, but every seam on the unit. I corrected the thread problem with plumbers tape. The other areas I use supper glue to go around all seams.
