Freshwater Substrates 20 lbs Style: Kon Tiki
Resembles a natural river bed!
I just set up a 125 gallon freshwater tank with "sharks" in it and wanted it to resemble a river bed looking natural. The shipment came in 20 lb bags packaged individually so it was not hard to load it into the house. The enclosed packets in each gravel bag contained water conditioner and beneficial bacteria which helped with the cycling of the new tank. I used the Sungold sand on the bottom and Kon Tiki on top and achieved a beautiful natural look, and my fish are happy. Definitely recommend it for the price.

EXCELLENT FRESH WATER SUBSTRATE
I USE THE PEACE RIVER SUBSTRATE IN ALL MY FRESH WATER AQUARIUMS. NOT ONLY IS IT A VERY ATTRACTIVE SUBSTRATE, BUT BECAUSE OF IT'S UNIFORM STONE DIAMETER SIZE IT PREVENTS UNEATEN FOOD FROM PENETRATING TOO DEEP IN THE SUBSTRATE. THIS MAKES AQUARIUM MAINTENCE MUCH EASIER AND KEEPS THE TANK MUCH CLEANER.

Great sand, no matter what
I have purchased a total of 340 pounds of this sand (various grades) over my aquarist career, i have a BS in aquatic biology, and have over 800 gallons of freshwater aquariums in my "office" i have added this to an existing tanks, and i've started new tanks with this sand.
the different grades cycle new tanks different speeds i've noticed, the finer the sand, the quicker it cycles a new tank, only by a few days at most, but that could matter.
when i added the finer sand to an existing tank, it made the water cloudy for about 14 hours. make sure you turn all filters and pumps off, otherwise the sand can really mess them up.
i have them in snail tanks, my hatcheries, pleco tanks, arowana tanks, even cichlid tanks.
if you're adding to an existing tank, just make sure the sand sizes are close, unlike i did my second tank. lol. i foolishly put fine sand on top of larger gravel, made some really gross mold and all sorts of issues.

Bought Peace river substrate and I am very pleased with it
I bought 6 bags of peace river substrate for my 75 gal. tank. I had a larger substrate before and I can see my cory cats are loving this small grain size. It's grain size is kind of in between a sand and gravel keeping the waste on top and easy to vacumn. I tore down my tank and scooped out the old gravel, cleaned up the tank, added the new gravel, did a 40% water change and re-intoduced the fish in about a 3 hour period. Three weeks later my fish are doing great and the water has never been so crystal clear. I am very happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone.
