Cage Cleaning Tips for Small Pets
A clean, dry, hospitable home is paramount to your guinea pig's health. Be sure your fuzzy friend has a spacious, secure, ventilated, chew-proof home containing the basics: proper bedding, food and water containers, toys, exercisers, and litter box with organic litter like Kay-Kob (#415683). Aspen Bedding (#19822) and other natural materials that do not contain irritating oils or preservatives are ideal. Place cage in a bright, accessible location away from direct sunlight, very young children, and other pets.

Maintaining a clean, comfortable pet home requires minimal time and effort. Following is a typical cleaning schedule:

DAILY:

• Remove wet/mess spots in bedding/litter.
• Change bedding/litter if necessary.
• Wash food bowl and supply fresh food.
• Wash water bottle/bowl and refill.

WEEKLY:

• Remove and replace all bedding and/or litter.
• Wash and disinfect cage bottom and toys. Nontoxic Cage Cleaner & Deodorizer simplifies cleaning and leaves a fresh scent. As with all cleaners, rinse thoroughly.

While cleaning your pet's environment, keep your small pet safely contained in an Exercise Pen (#19548) or small traveling cage. An empty cage is much easier to clean.

In addition to thorough daily and weekly cleanings, there are a variety of nontoxic products designed to streamline future cleanings. Some products shield your pet's cage bars from waste, while others aid in the grooming of your pet. Both types of products safely reduce the amount of time it takes to clean your pet's environment:
