Eshopps Hang-On Protein Skimmer

Note: Turn off protein skimmer prior to feeding or supplementation. Wait 30 to 45 minutes before turning protein skimmer back on to minimize excess/wet foam production.

• Hang skimmer on back of the aquarium.
• Get a cup to fill main body with water up to the middle.
• Bend the air intake hose so no air can get through.
• While bending the hose, plug the electric cord into the wall. Wait until the water level reaches almost to the neck and then release the air hose. The skimmer should start running by now.
• Water level can be adjusted by using the adjusting knob. Note: IF the water level is too high, it will cause the skimmer to overflow.

Maintenance
Clean the pump and air intake adaptor every 2 to 3 months to prevent calcium build up.

First off let me just say that this skimmer has blown me away! Right from the start I was very surprised by its built quality! It was hard to pick this skimmer up with very little info from others on the net.

After getting the skimmer all set up, I made a couple of minor modifications. The first was to replace the foam "bubble diffuser" Eshopps included. The piece was cut a little too shallow, and caused the skimmer to overflow. This was fixed by positioning the included foam piece a little lower on the return line. However, after going through my spare parts box, I found a foam filter from a Mag 5 pump that we have, which works PERFECTLY! The second modification I made was to remove the silencer from the air line, and replace it with a valve from a Maxi-jet. This was so I could control the amount of air. Neither of these modifications needed to be made (skimmer worked GREAT out of the box), I just wanted a little better control.

This skimmer has been up and running for a couple months now, and pulls about 1/3 cup of dark, stinky skimate every few days (this on a very lightly stocked 20 gallon, being fed sparingly once a day). I'm VERY pleased!!! 5 stars for this skimmer!

The quality and performance of this skimmer is excellent. I hated the idea of having a bulky pump inside my tank so to me the external pump was the biggest selling point. This is my first protein skimmer so it took me about a half a day of trial and error to get it set correctly but once I did, WOW I couldn't believe what it was pulling from my tank.

My only complaint was the directions I received with the unit weren't the greatest. The page was very faded, didn't list the air intake silencer or what to do with it so I had to refer to pictures on this website to figure out what it was.

What a wonderful skimmer. Excellent engineering and quality. I love the adjustability, and it has been producing a lot of gunk it has collected from my tank. I love that it takes up so little space in the aquarium. Only the inlet and return tubing, with the pump on the outside make this a truly unique design. I had one problem when it first arrived. It made a terrible noise. I contacted Eshopps sales/support and they shipped me a new impeller within a couple of days. It worked wonderful and I would highly recommend this skimmer. If you have a problem, contact support. They were extremely helpful.
