Good to give as a gift - Attractive and nice packaging
I got these for a couple of people as a Christmas gift. I can't yet comment on how well they held up because I didn't get them for myself (yet). They were still full price when I ordered them & I figured they'd go on sale after the holidays so I'll get some for myself later. They did arrive in good condition, as opposed to some other seed balls I've ordered that didn't arrive fully intact. Each ball comes wrapped in a nice clear gift-type cellophane bag. There's a red red straw bow and pretty string for hanging, just like it's shown here in the picture, and they work well in a gift bag with tissue paper.
They're definitely a full 4" diameter. For their size they're a bit more dense and heavier than I had expected, so they'd need to be hung on a stronger branch/hook than you might think (on the other hand that means they probably have more seed packed in them). Just something to keep in mind when deciding who/what to buy them for. I'm not sure how they'll hold up in the rain, as compared to other seed balls, but as someone suggested you might try hanging them in a rain-resistant location.

good except when it rains
Birds (and unfortunately squirrels) love these seed balls. Only drawback I found was when it rained and the seed ball quickly softened and fell off of the stick it's molded around. But if you live in an area with little rain, no problem. Otherwise, hang it someplace where it won't get wet.
