Use Instructions
Remember that an electric fence system requires a combination of components to properly function. These components include a suitable fence wire, fence posts with insulators, and a grounding path (earth). Key to the functionality of your electric fence, however, is an energizer. This solar-powered, battery-operated SS-440 fence energizer by Fi-Shock is designed for quick and easy installation and functions with most existing electric fence wires or when building a new electric fence containment system. Can power a single or double-line fence system.

Proper grounding of your electric fence energizer is essential for safe and efficient operation. Proper grounding reduces the risk of electrical shock, offers maximum energy transfer for safe containment, and helps prevent stray voltages on surrounding equipment, which reduces the risk of accidental shock.

Step 1: Select a Suitable, Sunlit Location

1. This energizer must be installed in a location that collects the maximum amount of sunlight. This location should also be free of trees, structures, and other objects that may block sunlight from the solar module.

Step 2: Installing Your Energizer
The solar-powered, battery-operated SS-440 fence energizer is designed to be weather-resistant. However, it is best to install it under cover whenever practical. The SS-440 mounts virtually anywhere using the mounting holes located on the back of the unit to mount on a wall.

1. Connect an earth ground wire (not included) to the terminal blade labeled "Earth Ground." First loop the wire around the threaded post between the metal part of the plastic knob and the large flat washer. Tighten the plastic knob until it is secure.
2. Connect the earth ground wire (not included) to a metal grounding rod (not included) two-feet or more in length. Use a heavy-duty ground clamp (not included) to connect the earth ground wire to the grounding rod.
3. Connect a fence wire (not included) to the terminal blade labeled "Fence." First loop the wire around the threaded post between the metal part of the plastic knob and the large flat washer. Tighten the plastic knob until it is secure.
4. Connect the fence wire (not included) to your electric fence (not included) using a suitable fence clamp.

Your fence energizer is now installed. The red lamp on the front on the energizer will flash intermittently to indicate the unit is operating properly. The flashing lamp may be difficult to view in direct sunlight. Therefore, it may be necessary to shield the unit from the sun to see the flashing red lamp.

Fence Laws
Most states have laws defining what constitutes a legal partition fence, fence along a highway, or a fence along a railway. Local ordinances usually specify acceptable fencing between adjacent home lots. In addition, local laws may prohibit the use of electric fence energizers. A permit may be required in some cases. Check your local ordinances to determine if a permit is needed.

Tips

• Mount electric fence signs in visible areas to identify electrified wires. These signs are available at most local hardware or livestock stores.
• Inform all property visitors - especially children - about the location and operation of electric fences.
• Instruct all property visitors how to disconnect the energizer in case of emergency.
• Never climb over an electric fence wire while it is electrically energized.
• Never install an electric fence below high-voltage power plant transmission lines.
• Never use more than one electric fence energizer on the same fence.
• For maximum safety and effectiveness, ensure your electric fence is properly grounded at all times.
