How the System Works
The PetSafe Little Dog Remote Trainer has been proven safe, comfortable, and effective for all pets up to 55 pounds. This system assists you in controlling your pet without a leash in a range up to 100 yards. At the push of a button, the Remote Transmitter sends a signal, activating the Receiver Collar. Using the Remote Trainer consistently and correctly, much misbehavior that your pet exhibits can be corrected or any basic obedience commands can be taught.
Operating Guide Prepare the Remote Transmitter Charge the Remote Transmitter
Lift the rubber cover protecting the Remoter Transmitter Charging jack.
Connect the Charger Connector to the Remote Transmitter Charging Jack.
Plug the charger into a standard wall outlet.
Charge the Remote Transmitter for 24 hours for the first charge. Recharges take only 12 hours. Note: The Transmitter Indicator Light will flash after 12 hours of charging. For the first charge, continue to charge the Remote Transmitter for an additional 12 hours.
When charging is completed, replace the rubber cover.
Note: Approximate battery life between charges is 40 to 60 hours depending on frequency of use.
Fit the Receiver Collar Important: The proper fit and placement of your Receiver Collar is important for effective operation. The Contact Points must have direct contact with your dog's skin on the underside of his neck.
To ensure a proper fit, please follow these steps:
Make sure that the Receiver Collar is turned off.
Start with your dog standing comfortably.
Place the Receiver Collar high on your dog's neck, close to the ears. Center the Contact Points underneath your dog's neck, touching the skin. Note: It is sometimes necessary to trim the hair around the Contact Points to make sure that contact is consistent.
The PetSafe QuickFit Collar is designed so you can quickly attach and remove the Receiver Collar from your dog while maintaining the desired fit. a. With the Snap Buckle fastened, thread the collar through the Metal buckle. b. Slide the excess collar through the "C" Loop on top of the Snap Buckle. This will hold the collar in place. c. Once the collar fit is determined, simply use the Snap Buckle to remove and replace the collar.
The Receiver Collar should fit snug, yet loose enough to allow one finger to fit under the strap. Allow your dog to wear the collar for several minutes, then recheck the fit again as your dog becomes more comfortable with the Receiver Collar.
Trim the collar as follows: a. Mark the desired length of the collar with a pen. Allow for growth if your dog is young or grows a thick winter coat. b. Remove the Receiver Collar from your dog and cut off excess.
Important: Do not attach a leash to this collar. This can result in pulling the Contact Points too tightly against your pet's neck. Attach a leash to a separate, non-metallic collar or harness. Make sure the extra collar does not put pressure on the Contact Points.
Finding the Best Intensity Level for Your Pet
The Remoter Trainer has 8 different intensity levels. This allows you to choose the stimulation level that is best for your pet. NOTE: Always start at the lowest level and work your way up.
Once you have properly placed the Receiver Collar on your pet, find the intensity level that is best for your dog. This process is called Recognition Level. A slight change in your pet's behavior, such as looking around in curiosity, scratching at his collar, or flicking his ears indicates the best Recognition Level for your dog.
Follow the steps below to determine your pet's Recognition Level:
Press the Side Button (Positive Tone) for 2 to 3 seconds. If your pet reacts to this, you may use this button for training. If your pet shows no reaction, go to the next step.
Starting at Level 1, press the Lower Button (Stimulation) continuously for 2 to 3 seconds.
If your pet shows no reaction, go to the next Intensity Level and repeat process. NOTE: Be sure to repeat each Intensity Level several times before progressing to the next level.
Your pet should NOT vocalize or panic. If this happens, go back to the previous level and repeat process.
If your pet continues to show no response at Level 8, check the fit of the Receiver Collar.
Training Guide General Tips
Eliminate one misbehavior or teach one obedience command at a time. If you move too fast, your pet may become confused.
Be consistent. Give your pet a tone or stimulation with EACH misbehavior.
Do not over-correct your pet. Use as few stimulations as possible to train your pet.
Unless you can supervise your pet, it is recommended that you restrict your pet from situations in which he has a history of misbehaving. However, setting up a situation as a training session can dramatically improve your chances of success.
If your pet reacts to the training by hiding or acting fearful, redirect his attention to a simple and appropriate behavior such as the "SIT" command.
NEVER use the Remote Trainer to correct or eliminate any form of aggressive behavior. If you are unsure, your dog is aggressive, please consult your veterinarian or a certified trainer.

Works very well with small dog & can easily train with consistency. However, receiver collar battery does not last long & very expensive to replace.
