Get your orphaned or early weaned foals off to a great nutritional start. Foal-Lac Powder is a milk replacer that you reconstitute with water. It is formulated specifically for foals and provides critical nutrition for orphaned or early-weaned foals up to 8 weeks. It is usually fed in combination with Foal-Lac Pellets, also a milk supplement, beginning when a foal is 3-4 weeks old. Foal-Lac Pellets help a foal maintain growth rate through the weaning stage. Mixing Directions: Mix one (1) cup (8 oz. cup enclosed) of FOAL-LAC Powder with three (3) cups of warm water. This yields approximately one and one-half pints of milk replacer.
Early Weaned and Nursing Foals:
Early weaned foals can be placed on the orphan foal feeding schedule. The age of the foal will determine the place to start in the feeding schedule. Nursing foals receiving an inadequate amount of milk from the mare can be placed on the orphan foal schedule. Start with half the amount of FOAL-LAC recommended for orphans, then adjust up or down according to the foal's appetite.
Orphaned/Early Weaned Foals
Good quality, tender hay, salt and water should be provided free choice starting at 10 days of age. Consult your veterinarian for immunization, parasite control programs and for any sign of illness.
Weanlings/Yearlings: Feed a 14% protein roughage/grain ration. If extra condition is desired, feed 1 to 3 cups (8 oz cup included) of FOAL-LAC Pellets daily.
Breeding Stallions: During breeding season supplement the stallion's ration with 1 to 3 cups of Pellets daily to maintain condition.
Performance Horses: Supplement the ration with 1 to 3 cups of Pellets daily to maintain condition.
