Assembly
Screw the handwheels fully onto the spindles.
Make sure that they are the correct way round (spin counterclockwise).
Insert one spindle assembly into each corner socket of the gate.
Location
The gate should be positioned so that it opens away from the stairs. NEVER install with the gate door opening over the stairs.
For wider openings, gate extensions are available.
Affixing surfaces must be suitable for the purpose and structurally sound.
Suitable Surfaces
Low Pressure Mounting with Screwed Wall Cups
Low Pressure Mounting with Adhesive Wall Cups
Rigidly Supported Wooden Surface (e.g., Door Frame/Skirting Board)
Installation NOTE: Do not install without Wall Cups. NOTE: Gate must be fitted upright in order for the self-closing mechanism to function correctly.
Position the gate in the center of the gap, ensuring that it is perfectly upright.
Adjust the left and right handwheels evenly until the gate is fixed in position with the wall cups held in place.
Mark the position of the four wall cups and remove the gate.
Following correct affixing method as detailed in the chart above, stick or screw the wall cups to their marked positions using the adhesive pads or screws provided, together with the appropriate wall plugs or affixing aids. Caution: If securing wall cups to a wallpapered surface, or where paint is flaking or blistered, screws must be used.
With the gate door closed and locked, reposition in the center of the gap and locate spindles into the wall cups. Tighten the bottom handwheels equally until secure.
Tighten top handwheels equally until there is no gap between the handle and the plastic insert. Finally, tighten the handwheel closest to the handle another 3 clicks. The gate is now correctly fitted.
Using the Gate
Opening the Gate: Lift the gate door by the handle fully upward. While maintaining the lifting action the gate door can then be swung open.
Closing the Gate: Once opened, the gate will close and lock automatically. Do not push or slam the gate door. Always make sure the gate is shut and locked fully before leaving unattended. The gate can be shut manually by holding the handle and closing the gate door until it locks into position.
Removing the Gate: The gate is fitted with tamperproof handwheels. The top two handwheels can only be slackened while the gate is in the open position and the pressure released by pulling the side bars away from the wall cups.
Maintenance
Check the gate periodically to ensure that the wall surface, wall cups, spindles, handwheels, and locking devices are all functioning correctly. Additional and replacement parts can be obtained by contacting the North States Customer Service Department via Careline. If the gate begins to swing shut more slowly than before, the lower hinge may need cleaning. With the gate in place, protect the floor, lift the gate door fully and spray a little lubricant (such as WD40 or furniture polish) into the lower hinge above the two metal pins. Release the gate door gently back into the locked position and then open and close the gate a few times to spread the lubricant.
Extensions
The Auto Close gate has the 2 bar Extension (5-3/4") fitted as standard which can be removed if necessary. First remove the extension, then remove the blue plastic inserts from the extension and re-fit them into the gate. To install the gate, proceed as per the above instructions.
Gate extensions are available in 3 sizes: 3", 6", and 14". Several extensions can be used together to extend the gate to a maximum of 61". Do not extend more than 61".

This company makes a great product. The gates work great at containing the dogs to their areas in the house. Easy to install and easy to use!
This product is awesome. I have a young Golden mix that learned to open my other gate. No way she is getting this one open. In fact, I'm buying another this week!
Pet gates, made of steel, plastic, or wood, help you keep your dog out of trouble by restricting his access to specific rooms/areas or confining him to acceptable surroundings.
As every pet owner knows, certain times and situations require that you safely contain your pet. Choosing the right product for your pet and your needs helps ensure your pet's safety and well-being when contained.
