Good Basic Filtration
The biological insert is better than a sponge, because it's easier to rinse out any detritus that gets caught in it - never needs replacing due to general funkiness, the way a sponge does.
The suction cups are not really strong enough to hold the filter well. Correction: the suction cups are fine, it's the way they attach to the filter by a ridge of rubber that is inadequate. The weight of this filter causes them to pop out.
Otherwise this is a solidly basic internal filter. Good for low-profile tanks without room for an external filtration system. I have two of the 40s, plus an undergravel in my 94 gallon freshwater aquarium, and they seem to be doing the job.
I also like that these filters take the same sized filter cartridges as many of my other filters. The Whisper cartridges are the best, because they aren't sealed up in individualized forms like other brands. You can add any media that you want into the disposable socks and customize your system to fit your needs. Other brands try to force you to purchase their specially shaped, sealed up, filter components. Usually those special components are really just a sock with a different type of media in it. These are also convenient because if you need to medicate, you can put in a sock with no charcoal in it. Other filter cartridges prevent you from removing the charcoal unless you cut them open.

Product would not stay attached
We were very unhappy with this filter. It would not stay suctioned to the wall and we constantly were reattaching. Even when we did succeed it would bang and move all around as the suctions are only in the middle. We through it out after one week of struggle. Get what you pay for.
