General Information
Why Feed an Egg Food Supplement to your bird? - A varied diet is the key to having a healthy bird. Seed diets are relatively low in protein and lack many essential vitamins. Pelleted and extruded diets don't offer variety and are many times poorly accepted by the birds. Adding egg food to any of these diets increases the protein and vitamin levels of the overall diet. Because most birds readily eat the egg food before anything else, it is the perfect means to introduce vitamins or medication when necessary.

Other Uses For Egg Food
One of the challenges in raising and keeping birds is getting the birds to accept vitamins or, occasionally, medication. Sprinkling vitamins over their seed often doesn't work very well. However, mixing the vitamins or medicine with a soft egg food almost guarantees that the birds will get these additives because birds almost always go straight for the egg food before they touch anything else.
Adding Variety
To ensure greater variety in your bird's diet, you can try adding different ingredients to the egg food mixture. You can add some songbird seed mix for finches and canaries. Larger birds can have cooked sweet potato, seed, or chopped fruits and vegetables added to the mixture. Chopped greens (kale, Romaine lettuce, spinach, celery leaves, etc.) are great for all birds, so can be added to the mixture, as well.
