Hydrokable evenly distributes heat upward from the bottom of your aquarium. Install the double-insulated silicone cable in a repeated S-pattern before adding substrate. Includes suction cup clips. Control your Hydrokable with the external Hydroset LCD Electronic Thermostat. Set temperature easily with the ergonomic adjustment knob. Its independent probe works in water or air, displaying reliable LCD readouts in both °F and °C. Flame symbol indicates when heating. Or, choose the economical Hydroset Electronic Thermostat model with manual temperature dial and no LCD readout. Hydroset may be used in combination with any heater.

Before adding the Hydrokable, my 55 gal plant tank would have cold spots in winter that I fear caused bouts with ich. I also applied 1/2 inch Styrofoam sheets on each side of the bottom of the tank. Now an even temp is maintained that the fish and plants seem to thrive on. I have not lost a Serape Tetra or Angel Fish in over 2 years.
I recommend this all the way but when you are getting the thermostat, get the non-LCD one because mine broke after a year and started to boil the water. Get the regular one, its cheaper and haven't had problems with it since and had it for over three years!
A sharp drop in water temperature is extremely stressful to fish and can compromise their immune system. Improperly sized heaters may not be able to maintain their set temperature and cause aquarium temperature to fluctuate several degrees per day.
Temperature can be the single most important component in the life of your fish. Fish, in the wild and in our aquariums, are very sensitive to changes in temperature. Learn the affects of water temperature on fish health.
