What is Cortisoothe® Shampoo?
Cortisoothe is a medicated shampoo. It contains hydrocortisone to provide temporary relief of inflammation and pruritus associated with corticosteroid-responsive skin diseases like pruritic erythematous dermatoses (atopy, flea-bite dermatosis).

Who is it for?
Dogs, cats and horses of any age.

How does Cortisoothe® Shampoo work?
Cortisoothe® Shampoo contains hydrocortisone (1%), which has a temporary anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effect, in a soothing emollient oatmeal shampoo.

Is there a generic equivalent available?
No generic products are available.

How is it given?
Shake well before use. Wet the hair coat with warm water and apply a sufficient amount of shampoo to create a rich lather. Massage shampoo into wet hair coat, lather freely. Rinse and repeat. Allow to remain on hair for 5 to 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly with clean water. May be used initially two to three times a week for four weeks, then reducing to once a week, or as directed by your veterinarian.

Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty applying this medication, contact your veterinarian. This medication should only be used on the pet for whom it was prescribed.

What should I discuss with my veterinarian while considering Cortisoothe® Shampoo for my pet?
Talk to your veterinarian about what type of outcome is expected. Have your veterinarian explain the other treatment options that may be available to treat your pet's condition.

Tell your veterinarian if your pet develops skin irritation while this product is being used. If your pet's skin condition persists or no improvement is seen within 10 days, consult your veterinarian.

Notify your veterinarian of any other medications or supplements your pet is taking. Also if your pet has had any reactions to previous medications.

Who should not take it?
Not for use in patients hypersensitive (allergic) to it or to similar products.

For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes or mucus membranes.

Wash hands after use.

Consult with your veterinarian regarding the physical examinations and laboratory testing necessary prior to and during treatment with hydrocortisone/colloidal oatmeal shampoo.

What side effects may be seen when taking Cortisoothe® Shampoo?
None if used according to directions.

How is it stored?
Store in a tight, light resistant, childproof container at room temperature. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

What should I do if I know of or suspect there has been an overdose?
Adverse reactions and toxicities are unlikely.

If you know or suspect your pet has had an overdose, or if you observe any unusual signs, symptoms, or behaviors in your pet, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Keep this and all other medications out of the reach of children and pets.

What should I avoid when giving my pet Cortisoothe® Shampoo?
Consult with your veterinarian before using hydrocortisone/colloidal oatmeal shampoo with any other medications, including vitamins and supplements, since interactions may occur.
