Heated Rock Birdbath De-Icer 5 5 6 6

ordered a heated birdbath element order arrived quickly (4-5 days) the birds and I are enjoying it. also cane with a nice 3 year warranty I hopi I never use. Thank you, great produce and service, January 28, 2013

best feature is that the rock blends into the birdbath So far the heated rock bird bath de-icer is working very well. We have had very cold below freezing weather and high Texas winds for quite a few days, and it has performed as expected and has been keeping the water in the bird bath from freezing. Even in an unprotected area on the North side of the house. It appears that it will be durable. Only time will tell. It should last with proper maintenance. January 17, 2013

Works perfectly, no muss, no fuss! I already had a bird bath so I chose this heated rock to put in it, instead of buying a more expensive new heated bath. My bath is actually used mostly for drinking by all the birds that winter here, ranging from tiny chickadees to big Clark's Nutcrackers and blue jays. I guess they don't want to bathe when it's 5 degrees, even though this heater keeps the water temperature about luke-warm to cool. We put this on our back deck, under a big pine tree near the seed feeder, and it's busy all day. It's great fun to watch the action and see them all sharing their watering hole. The unit is easy to unplug and clean, making it a snap to scrub the whole bath and refill it. We did install a GFI breaker for this outside electrical outlet, to prevent any accidents. I highly recommend this for every bird lover who lives in a cold climate - we are in the mountains at 6000 feet and this heater is on 24 / 7 and performs perfectly. December 8, 2012

Winner Birds are pleased that they have fresh water to drink.now that it is winter and freezing most other water sources. It works as promised. I just have to buy some algaecide to keep the algae bloom down from the heat of the water. December 4, 2012

I would like to know how large a birdbath this will accomadate.

I have a 2 tiered birthbath. I will remove the top tier and keep the lower for the winter. At the top is it 17" across and about 5" deep. Will this heater be large enough for my birdbath?

Ive had mine in Denver for a few weeks and it works well in a birdbath 24 inches acrross and about 4 inches deep in tempatures below zero. i do have to add more water than previously, maybe its being used more?

My bath, that I'm using this heated rock in, is nearly 18" across and about 3" deep at the center, with sloping sides up to the rim. I put a couple of smooth rocks in the bottom of it, next to the heating unit, to take up some space and make a shallower area for the small birds to bathe. This heated rock has kept all the water, even the edges, ice free and about a "cool to tepid" temperature. I think it would work fine in your bath - but you might want to add a couple of large smooth rocks to make the depth less in the center.

Thank you for your question. The Heated Rock De-Icer is 75 Watts and works in any birdbath. This unit measures 5 1/8" X 5 1/8", and is 3/4" thick.

The rock is nearly circular, 5" across and 1" deep, flat on both top and bottom. Yes, you could physically set a small bowl on top of it, and I imagine the heat from the rock would keep the bowl of water warm enough to prevent freezing, as long as the bowl isn't too deep. However: remember that the rock itself is designed to be immersed in water, so I don't know how well it would work if it wasn't covered by water.
It sounds like you don't have a bird bath to put this into, so you're thinking of just using the rock to keep a bowl of water warm and let it be a drinking station for birds. Maybe you could find a small shallow baking pan instead, something like a quiche pan or shallow pie plate, and fill it with water, then put the rock on the bottom of it.

Thank you for your question. The rock measures about 5-1/8" x 5-1/8". This item is only made to be used in the center of a birdbath. We would not recommend using this to heat a small bowl of water set on top of this item.
