Openings on two sides! Sneak an up-close view of nesting bluebirds through the Plexiglas window on one side of this house, and conduct post-season cleanout on the other. This well-constructed bluebird house is made from sustainably-grown Eastern pine. It provides bluebirds exact floor space, ventilation, drainage, and insulation requirements. 1-1/2" opening with predator guard keeps unwanted species out. Generous roof overhang further protects the opening.
This durable home was built upon years of research into the habits and preferences of bluebirds, as well as a concern for the hazards that threaten them. It features 1" thick, unfinished pine to insulate birds from extreme heat. Rough-cut panels allow fledglings to get a foothold as they climb out of the nest, yet smooth-mitered corners give it style and visual appeal. Ventilation is provided at the top of each side panel, and the recessed floor has drainage at all four corners. 4" x 4-1/2" floor dimensions. Mounting instructions and hanger bracket included. 6" wide x 8" deep x 12-1/2" high.

Mounting Instructions
Put a screw or nail into a tree or post at a height of three to five feet, leaving about 1/4" sticking out. Place the metal hanger at the top/rear of the nest box onto the screw or nail. Place a second nail or screw at the bottom of the back panel of the nest box to hold it securely.
About this Nest Box
Coveside's Nest Boxes are neither painted nor stained. Over time, they will weather, darken, turn gray, and eventually blend right in with their environment, which is good because birds prefer an inconspicuous nest box. The most important thing you can do to preserve the long life of this nest box is to clean it out after each nesting cycle. Each of this box's two side panels tilts out from the bottom for easy access. One side features a Plexiglas panel for viewing, and the other side tilts out solely for cleaning. A latch at the bottom secures the panel in place. NOTE: If you wish to paint or stain this box, it is critical to use water-based stain or paint only. Oil-based paints and stains are toxic to birds. A light seasonal external coating of boiled linseed oil is a highly effective nontoxic preservative.
How to Attract Bluebirds
We can assist the return of this lovely bird by providing suitable habitat, food, water, nesting cavities, and winter shelter. Plants that carry berries through the winter (holly, privet, honeysuckle, bayberry, sumac, bittersweet, hackberry, dogwood, and others) will provide important shelter for many birds in winter. Bluebirds may stay all year in areas where they can find sufficient food and a roosting box will help them maintain warmth on the coldest nights. Bluebird nest boxes should include features that favor bluebirds and discourage both predators and competitors, to give bluebirds a safe place to rear young. You will find these features in the nest boxes made by Coveside Conservation. |
