Premium Woodpecker Food 5 lbs (approx. 3-1/3 qts) 4.9 5 7 7

Birds love it! All the birds (besides woodpeckers) that come to my feeders gobble up this mix. The pieces are a good size; the sunflower seeds are large, as well as the nuts. Not only are woodpeckers eating it, but, all the usual backyard-feeder gang eat it up. (it gets eaten faster than other mixes I have in other feeders) I have been a DFS customer for dog medicines for many years, &, gradually other dog products too, since they have the BEST customer service . About a year ago I started ordering wild bird seed too, &, the woodpecker mix has become my all-around seed favorite.. January 8, 2013

Birds go crazy for this mixture When I first opened this product, the scent that wafted out of the bag was heavenely. Obviously the birds think so, too! I even had an adult pileated hanging upside down on my little feeder so he could munch away. All the birds love it - it goes fast! This is going to be their special treat food. October 30, 2012

Looking for squirrel proof to feed larger birds (starlings are OK)

I have a squirrel proof feeder that is being mobbed right now with the small birds as well as woodpeckers and a few obnoxious starlings. I do not mind the starlings and was delighted to see the woodpecker hanging around. I need a small feeder that can fit the larger birds' heads so they can eat too, but still keep it safe from squirrels. ALSO, my current feeder is one of those cage types. Can I use your woodpecker feed in this?

It depends how large the cage feeder is. I've found it needs to be somewhat large for the feed to flow freely. Be aware the squirrels will hang upside down on the feeder and use their paws to get to the seed. You'll need a squirrels baffle to keep them off of it.

Thank you for your question.We would recommend another caged feeder like the Grande, item#74133. This feeder would accommodate some larger birds and should keep squirrels out. The link on this item is provided below.

The woodpecker blend of seed does have some larger pieces. As long as the feeder you’re putting this seed in has large enough ports, this seed should work.

What type of feeder is best for Drs. F & S Premium Woodpecker food?

I purchased two woodpecker feeders from another company and filled them with Drs. F & S woodpecker food. Everything was fine until the squirrels gnawed into the seed holes and all the seed fell out. I even had the huge mandarin baffle over the feeders, but it didn't stop the squirrels from destroying them. Is there a feeder mainly for woodpeckers and other clingers that will hold woodpecker seed but keep squirrels out?
