The picture with the blue jay in the middle of the feeder is quite deceiving. The jays that visited my old feeder, a fixed opening horizontal type, could remove a peanut in a matter of seconds. They actually stopped visiting this wreath feeder because they could not remove a peanut. To assist them in doing so, I took a zip tie and tied approximately 20 rings near the hook. Doing so caused the wire to expand. However, it is very tricky. Expand it too much and a lot of smaller sized peanuts will actually fall out on their own. Don't expand it enough and the jays still cannot remove a peanut, especially near the bottom. Both myself and the jays are actually disappointed with the feeder. At least using the zip tie will help to get your investment paid back.
