Birds love them; squirrels stay away.
I have several suet ball feeders. The challenge is keeping squirrels from eating everything. I hung a feeder with peanut butter suet balls out of squirrels' reach; I hung the hot pepper suet balls within their reach. They steer clear of the hot pepper, while the birds love it. Living in the city, I don't have a large variety of birds, but the suet balls attract goodly numbers, and the birds appear to be quite happy.

Attrachs all birds
Fruit & nut flavor has attracted more birds. We have added several different types (catbird, tufted titmouse) since purchasing this flavor. Downside is also attracts grackles & starlings and they eat like little piggies!

All bird lovers should have a tube feeder with suet balls.
I've had a cake suet feeder for years and I would usually put a 'brick' in the cage and it would hang there for 2 or 3 weeks before I had to replace it. I purchased the suet tube and two packages of the suet balls thinking it would last all summer. Turns out it was the 'new parents' favorite food for the just hatched baby birds. They go through 3 suet balls a day and I'm now ordering in bulk.
