My wild birds love these mealworms! I was very pleased on the quick delivery/high quality of the mealworms received and my feathered friends were very pleased also....blue birds, cardinals, and mockingbirds! May 24, 2013

Exactly as advertised Product arrived next day, and entire lot was in great shape, and excellent condition as though I just picked them out of the ground myself. I bought them for feeding blue birds as I have been doing for years; however, this was a first time purchase via internet. A little expensive with the shipping, but in the long run worth it because I was tired of buying in stores, and only to have half of them dead. Will buy again!!! April 4, 2012

good mealwors came quickly, properly marked, and at least one cardinal ate some. Waiting for spring to see if I can attract bluebirds to my yard with them. I am raising them in a plastic bucket with oatmeal and potatoes, carrots, etc for moisture and food. January 23, 2012

Best Mealworms Ever! These are the best looking mealworms I have ever purchased. They look plump and healthy! Before I purchased these I bought some from my local pet store, the bluebirds showed absolutely NO interest in the worms. When these arrived in the mail I could tell a difference right away, I put some out and the bluebirds were eating them up within 5 min. I highly recommend these mealworms they are well worth the cost of shipping. April 26, 2011

How many mealworms should I buy, I am just getting started

We have one family I think of bluebirds,vand I want to support them, but I don't want the worms to develop into Beatles because I had them too long. and do you continually send them? Seems like that would be logical.

I started out purchasing1,000 mealworms at a time (now I purchase 2,000 at a time).....feed about 25-30 mealworms a day in my mealworm dish...kinda like on a budget. You can set it up with Drs F & S to have deliveries set up periodically automatically, however, I order mine when needed. Also, I store my mealworms in the refrigerator and "feed" them once a week with banana peels or potato peels.

My birds didn't care for them much. Just put out a half cup in the morning, and see how fast they get eaten. Then you can adjust the amount from there. Keep the container in the refrigerator.

how do I keep mealworms alive?

How would I keep mealworms alive until ready for use? Do they multply? How many should I put out at one time?
I love bluebirds and put out several bluebird houses but I have never put feed out for them but I want to. I appericate any information anyone can give me on bluebirds. They are already checking out nests here in the piedmont of North Carolina!

The best way to keep mealworms until ready for use is to keep them in the refrigerator. They go into a hibernation state and can actually live for several months. Make sure you keep them in a plastic container with small air holes so they cannot climb out, the plastic is too slippery for them to climb. I keep a carrot in mine because it provides moisture for the worms and they like to eat it, just make sure you remove it if it starts to mold. You can also keep a piece off egg carton in the container because the worms like to hide. Unrefrigerated the worms would eventually turn into beetles who then lay the eggs to make more mealworms people have done this successfully if you wish to raise your own mealworms.

This is what I learned from my local bird store: keep them in a container, filled with wheat bran to about 2/3-3/4 of the way to the top of the container, in the refrigerator. Every two weeks, take the contatiner out of the refrigerator, put a thin slice of apple in it (for food and hydration for the mealworms), leave the container out at room temperature for 24 hours, then remove the apple, add a little more wheat bran and put the container back in the refrigerator. Repeat this process every two weeks.

Thank you for your question. You should place the bedding and worms into a metal or plastic pan at least three to four inches deep. A good rule of thumb is to use two parts bedding to one part live mealworms.
