Black Oil Sunflower Seed 5 lbs (approx. 5-1/2 qts)
The Black Oil Sunflower Seed is by far a superior product. I love seeing all the different kinds of birds that flock to my feeders. My feeders are all placed on the front of my property (country farm) and when folks come to visit and look out any of the front windows, they always remark on how many birds I get. I do try to buy most of the seeds when it is on sale and Drsfostersmith.com has good prices. This is my place to shop for both my dog and my wild birds.

Bird seed for poets
The black oil sunflower seeds are used for human consumption. I spread them out on a light colored table and pick all the non sunflower seed particles out. Then they are put in a wire strainer under hot water then transferred to a large pan. The pan is half full of hot water season salt and what ever herb or veg I want them to taste of. After boiling them for twenty minutes they are scooped back into the strainer and held under hot water for three minutes. Then they are poured into cookie sheets and baked at 380 degrees F. until the seed is no longer tender then the oven is brought up to 480 F. until they are crunchy but not burned.
The seed I have purchased here is cleaner and generally larger than any I have gotten at a grocery or pet store.

Birds Love It
This particular kind of black oil sunflower seeds are much superior to the same type of seed in grocery stores. This seed from Foster and Smith is very fresh and clean. I put down a couple of cups a day and the birds love it! I also use the waste-free birdseed from F&S and sometimes put down a combination of both. The birds are crazy about both.
