For control of "wet tail" and other diarrhea-related problems in hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, and guinea pigs.
DriTail is a specifically formulated antibiotic developed specifically for treatment of diarrhea and diarrhea-related problems in hamsters and other pet rodents. DriTail is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, active at low concentrations, and effective against many intestinal pathogens. The antibacterial action is restricted and concentrated in the intestine where the effect is desirable and does not encourage the development of resistant strains.
For immediate results, DriTail is administered directly to the animal by means of a calibrated dropper. The medication is then added to the animal's drinking water for the remainder of the treatment.
Indications: DriTail is indicated for treatment of "wet tail" and other diarrhea-related problems. DriTail should be used when shipping animals or when new animals are received as a precaution against infection due to shipment-associated diarrhea infections.
Note: Wet Tail in hamsters is a very serious and potentially fatal disease. We recommend that any hamster with diarrhea be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible.
Administration and Dosage: The first day, using the calibrated dropper, administer eight drops of the medicine in the mouth of the animal once in the morning and once in the evening. After the initial dose, add three teaspoons (15 ml) of medication to four ounces (120 ml) of fresh water. The animal should be treated for a total of five days. The medicated water should be the animal's only source of water. Repeat an additional five days if necessary. Sick animals should be separated from healthy animals. If more than one animal is caged together, all animals should be treated for a period of five days to prevent infection.
Prophylaxis: Upon receiving new animals or when shipping animals, add three teaspoons (15 ml) of medication to four ounces of water for 3 days. To prevent infecting present stock, keep all new animals away from present stock. DO NOT bring receiving crates into main animal rooms.
Precautions: Treat animal for full recommended dosage. Discontinue feeding greens and roughages to animals that have diarrhea. Isolate sick animals and/or treat all animals in a single cage. Prepare fresh solution if second five-day treatment is necessary.
Keep this and all medications out of reach of children. Contains Neomycin sulfate equivalent to not less than 20 mg/ml Neomycin base.
