What is calcium ascorbate?
Calcium ascorbate is a mineral salt that is used as the stabilized Vitamin C source in Daily C. Calcium ascorbate provides a buffered form of Vitamin C, which means it is less acidic and more absorbable.
What if my guinea pig won't take the tablet?
Guinea pigs are sometimes suspicious and cautious of new foods. As with any new taste, some training may need to be implemented before your guinea pig learns to love the taste of Daily C. With a little attention, your guinea pig will soon begin to beg for Daily C on a daily basis.
Is it okay to give supplements to a sick animal?
Under a veterinarian's guidance, Oxbow treats can be used to ease sick or injured animals back into a regular eating routine. Oxbow supplements (which animals think are treats) also can help prevent illness. Daily C, for example, prevents Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) deficiency in guinea pigs, which can cause scurvy, anorexia, diarrhea, and lameness among other things.
What is the benefit of supplying Vitamin C in a tablet?
The Vitamin C found in Oxbow Daily C tablets is more stable than the variety added to water. Vitamin C loses its potency when added to water. Approximately only 20% of the Vitamin C sources added to water still remain after a period of 8 hours. Guinea pigs may refuse or reduce the amount of water due to the taste of the Vitamin C, which may lead to other health problems. Feeding a tablet guarantees that pets receive the entire stabilized amount of Vitamin C necessary for optimum health.
