Setup and installation of your new Decorative ReptoFilter
Start by verifying all parts for assembly are included in the package. Decorative ReptoFilter Includes:
Decorative ReptoFilter
(2) ReptoFilter Medium Cartridges
Lid
O-ring
Outflow tube with elbow fitting
80 gph pump
Press outflow tube into pump discharge opening. Note: Sandstone and Woodlands Decorative ReptoFilters have a 1 inch black tube. Tip: Lubricate tube and adapters with water to ease tube assembly to pump.
Slide O-ring over Elbow Fitting, keeping it approximately 1/4" from the end of the Elbow Fitting opening. Note: The O-ring is needed only in the River Rock Decorative ReptoFilter setup. The Sandstone and Woodlands Decorative ReptoFilters do not need an O-ring.
Place assembled pump on the bottom of the Decorative ReptoFilter. Slide the overflow tube with O-ring into groove at top of the filter front. Slide down until O-ring sits at bottom of groove to form a watertight seal. Route pump cord through small notch at rear of filter top. Note: For the Sandstone and Woodlands Decorative ReptoFilters, place the tube directly into the inner hole.
Rinse cartridge filters under cold tap water to remove any carbon dust.
Insert filter cartridges into slots on either side of pump and slide all the way down until seated on bottom*.
Place lid on filter.
Place filter unit in corner of tank and fill until water level is between minimum and maximum line (levels are indicated on side of filter). Use a dechlorinator every time water is added to the tank. Tip: All Decorative ReptoFilters have intake holes close to the base of the unit. In order to prevent small animals from being sucked into the holes, it is recommended to add gravel to cover the holes.
Plug in filter and create a drip loop.
Only the Woodlands and Sandstone Decorative ReptoFilters come with a built-in well for a circular fogger unit (not included). Warning: Make sure when installing the fogger, there is always a minimum of 2 inches of water levels in the well. Be sure to follow manufacture instructions.
*Replace filter cartridge every two weeks or sooner for optimal performance.
Safety Instructions
Special care should be taken to avoid possible electric shock, since water is employed in the use of aquarium equipment. Do not attempt any repairs by yourself; return the ReptoFilter appliance to an authorized service facility for service or discard the appliance.
Warning
To guard against injury, observe basic safety precautions, including the following:
If the ReptoFilter appliance shows any sign of abnormal water leakage, immediately unplug it from the power source.
Carefully examine the appliance after installation. Unplug the appliance if there is water on parts not intended to get wet.
Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged cord or plug, or if it is malfunctioning, or if it has been dropped or damaged in any manner.
To avoid getting the appliance plug or receptacle wet, position the aquarium to the side of a wall-mounted outlet in order to prevent water from dripping onto the plug or outlet. Arrange a "drip loop" for each cord connecting an aquarium appliance to an outlet. The "drip loop" is part of the cord below the level of the outlet (or if using an extension cord, below the level of the connector that prevents water from traveling along the cord and coming in contact with the outlet.
If the plug or outlet should get wet, don't unplug the cord. Disconnect the fuse or circuit breaker that supplies power to the appliance. Once the power has been disconnected, unplug the cord and examine it for the presence of water in the outlet.
Always unplug the appliance from an outlet when it is not in use. Also, unplug it before cleaning, and prior to disconnecting or attaching parts. Never yank the cord to pull the plug from the outlet. Grasp the plug and pull to disconnect.
Do not use an appliance for anything other than its intended use. Do not use attachments that are not recommended or sold by the manufacturer; they may cause an unsafe condition.
Do not install or store the appliance where it will be exposed to the weather or to temperatures below freezing.
Make sure the appliance is securely installed before operating it.
If an extension cord is necessary, use a cord with a rating that matches or exceeds the rating of the appliance. A cord rated for fewer amperes or watts than the appliance rating may overheat. Arrange the cord so that it will not trip anybody, and that it will not be pulled in any way.
This appliance has a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). As a safety feature, this plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Never use with an extension cord unless the plug can be fully inserted. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.
To avoid injury, do not touch moving parts.
Supervise children closely when they are near or using the appliance.
With so many different filters to choose from, it can get confusing trying to create a proper filtration system for your herp's habitat. Our convenient filter guide is here to help clear up any confusion.
