Assembly Overview
These treated pine garden bridges are precut, predrilled, sanded, include hardware, and are carefully packed for shipment in an easy-to-assemble kit form. There are a few easy steps for assembly. First, attach the 2" x 10" beams with the cross braces on each end of the beams (this creates the arch and base for the bridge). Second, add the precut 1" x 6" decking with our stainless steel screws to the 2" x 10" beam base. This process is all that is needed for the plank bridges.
To assemble the single-rail and the double-rail bridges there is an additional rail assembly. There will be three posts for on each side of the bridge. We have predrilled all of the holes in all of the 2" x 10" beams for the bridges. The predrilled holes are for the precut posts to attach to the 2" x 10" beams. Finally, attach the railing to the cutout in the posts with included bolt and stainless steel screws, and then attach the round post cap and finial on top of the posts.
Tools Needed For Treated Pine Bridges:
- 7/16" socket
- Pliers
- Hammer for light taping
- Drill (# 2 drive bit supplied for the square head screws)
Estimated assembly time: 25-30 minutes
Assembly Instructions
STEP 1
Attaching the 2 x 10 Support Beams with the Extension Boards
Please Note: Skip Step 1 for the 4' and 6' Bridges, as they do not require extension boards.
Using the 3-1/4" long carriage bolts, join the two 2 x 10 support beams to the 2 x 10 extension board, then put on the 1/4" bolts and tighten. Be sure to leave the two holes in the middle of the extension board open for notched posts (see Step 4).
STEP 2
Attaching the 2 x 10 Support Beams with the 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 Braces
Please Note: 2 x 4 braces are used with 4' and 6' long bridges - 8', 10' and 12' bridges come with 2 x 6 braces.
Attach the two 2 x 10 support beams with the two 2 x 4 braces. Using 2-1/4" screws, place the two 2 x 4 braces in the notches on each end of the 2 x 10 support beams, two screws for each side.
STEP 3
Applying the Walkway
Lay all the 1 x 6 decking on the 2 x 10 support beams with pre-drilled holes facing up. Use the 2" screws. (No spacing between boards).
STEP 4
Fasten Notched Posts to Bridge
Please Note: There will be (one) middle notched post on each side that does not have an angle. The middle notched posts require using the 4-1/4" long carriage bolts.
Starting on the ends, make sure that notched posts match up with the design of the bridge. Select the proper angled post for left or right end posts. The middle posts are cut straight. Place the notched end posts against outside of bridge and hammer 3-1/4" carriage bolts in each post. After putting all three notched posts on the bridge, lay the bridge on its side and secure 1/4" bolts and tighten. Repeat on other side before securing railings.
