Fishmate P21 Pond Feeder Pond Fish Feeder
Works. Poor design.
Fish Mate P21
There are 6 fish in our 800 gallon, recirculating pond. I have owned the FM21 for 3 months and it does everything that the box says. Automatic, all foods, different quantities, and maybe rain, but not, waterproof. That said, here are some thoughts about why I would not buy it again.
Mistake # 1 The translucent half of the feeder needs to be clear and transparent, both the food chamber and cover. The amount of food and the settings are not visible because the mfg used dark brown transparent plastic.
Mistake # 2 A single hanging “hook” in the top middle allows the feeder to spin in the wind, or indoors to passers-by, making it hard to position the feed drop slot. A second hanger would help a lot.
Mistake # 3 The cover is very difficult and awkward to open to get at the food chamber.
Mistake # 4 The food chamber cover is impossible to line up to close.
Mistake # 5 The color has nothing to do with water’s color to give it a chance to blend into it’s surroundings. The P21 is a utility fixture , and is not ambiance enhancing.
Our feeder WAS mounted on an arm extending from a post in the ground. Our pond has constantly flowing water, so we have a 2.5 foot diameter feeding ring to contain food and preventing it from flowing into the pond filter. The feeder quickly filled with crawling bugs, making adjustments unpleasant. Now both doors to the food chambers lie on the pond bottom, having been ripped apart by a skunk or a raccoon.
The feeder was discarded. It will NOT be replaced.
