Pressurized pond filter system with built-in pressure gauge
Monitor filter pressure to ensure optimal pond filtration
Handy maintenance features for reliable pond filter operation
Innovative features simplify filter upkeep for years of reliable performance. These heavy-duty pressurized pond filters provide mechanical and biological filtration and are loaded with convenient features. Built-in pressure gauge with easy-read display indicates when it is time to backwash the unit. 3-way master valve with simple "run", "rinse", and "backwash" settings allows easy transition from operation to maintenance mode. Special manually-operated agitator dislodges over 90% of filter residue to significantly reduce the amount of water needed to backwash the unit. Also available with integrated UV clarifier for enhanced water clarity and quality. 1-1/2" NPT fittings.
Quick Connect Hose Fitting - For easy, tool-free hose removal and reassembly.
Clear Multiport Valve - Control and visual monitoring of water clarity during backwash/rinse operation.
Waste Port Valve - Convenient ball valve directs waste water.
UV Lamp (PUV Models only) - Internal long thin bulb assembly forces water close to UV bulb for longer contact time with UV rays.
UV Lamp Ballast (PUV Models only) - Top mounted for convenient access.
Bio-Matrix Media - Reusable media affords maximum surface area for beneficial bacterial growth.
Agitator - Efficiently unlocks waste from media with minimum water loss during backwash/rinse.
Agitator Handle - Dual-purpose handle manually turns internal agitator. Also allows safe viewing and confirmation of UV Lamp status.
Pressure Gauge - Displays internal pressure to indicate when routine backwash is necessary.
Pressure Clamp - Stainless steel security.
Heavy-Duty Poly Canister - Weatherproof and designed for in-ground installation near pond.

Setup GuideChoose Location and Details
This filter must be connected to an external water pump. The water pump can be submersible or above ground depending on your preference. Please take note of the following:
The intake for the water pump should be positioned at the opposite end of the pond from the water return.
The filter drum (canister) must be buried up to an inch below the Pressure Clamp. If positioned above ground, use the backfill from digging the pond.
Your Pressurized Filter System works best within a certain range of flow and pressure. Exceeding these values will cause leakage or breakage of filter or its components.
Maximum Pump Capacity (Gal/Hr)
Maximum Line Pressure (psi)
For pond size (gallons)
Up to 1,000
Up to 2,000
Note: If the pump you would like to use exceeds these values, use Valved Bypass.
Filter and Hose Assembly
Unpack the main filter unit. It is completely factory assembled and pressure tested. Do not open the cover. If your filter includes the UV Clarifier, place it aside until after the filter is in its final mounted position.
Attach Quick Connects and Waste Valves
Operating Instructions for UV Clarifier (UV Models)
The UV Lamp and quartz sleeve are not installed and are located in separate boxes inside the main carton. When handling the UV Lamp, do not touch the glass bulb. Either hold the ceramic ends or preferably, wear gloves. To install the UV Lamp, align the center slot and pins with the mating connector inside the transformer and push the lamp firmly. To install the quartz sleeve, insert the closed round end into the tube adapter until the rubber gasket is all the way down in the adapter. A flange will prevent the ring from going any further and it will rest against the tube adapter.
Place the agitator handle over the tube adapter and slide the lamp and transformer into the quartz sleeve. Lightly hand-tighten the transformer into the tube adapter. Do Not Overtighten. To remove the sleeve for cleaning, take a thin screwdriver or kitchen knife and pry between the rubber flange and tube adapter until it lifts up. Take hold of the sleeve and pull it straight out.
Before turning on the pump, be sure to set filter setting as follows:
The Waste Port Valve should be in the Closed position.
Turn the Multiport Valve to the Filter position.
Turn on the pump and check the hoses and clamps.
After performing the test, with the pump running, the Waste Port Valve must be open before operating the clear Multiport Valve.
Filter Operating Instructions
Unlike other filters, this filter works best when the media is "dirty".
After initial setup, the filter must be allowed to run 3 to 4 weeks untouched in order to grow the beneficial colonies on the filter media that will biologically filter the water. During the first two weeks, the UV clarifier should be turned off.
When the waiting period has passed, turn the internal agitator to backwash and rinse out the debris trapped by the filter - but only AFTER the pressure begins to build.
The best way to tell when to backwash the filter is by keeping an eye on the pressure gauge.
Using the Pressure Gauge
The Pressure Gauge provides a reading immediately once the filter is set up and running. The number will vary based on your particular setup. It should read close to "0" psi until the bacterial colonies are established.
After a few weeks, the pressure should rise to 2 to 3 psi. This is your baseline. It should be written down for reference.
Check weekly. When pressure builds up to 2 to 3 psi above your baseline psi, it is time to agitate, backwash and rinse the filter.
After backwashing, the pressure will return to a reading close to the baseline reading.
Note: Pressure should not build beyond 5 psi. If it does, backwash the unit immediately to prevent damage to the filter.
This unit is for seasonal use only. It should not be used in freezing conditions. During harsh winters, water left in the canister may freeze, expand, and crack the canister. If necessary, the filter can be drained and winterized at the end of the season.
It is not necessary to open the filter to empty the water from the filter drum.
Turn off the pump and disconnect the UV (UV Model) from the power source.
Turn the Waste Port Valve to the open position and leave it open.
Remove the pressure gauge by unscrewing it.
If your setup has no UV Clarifier, simply unscrew the UV Plug in the Agitator Handle to access the inside of the filter. Using a small siphon or a wet/dry shop vacuum with a thin extension tube will make emptying the drum easier.
If your setup includes a UV Clarifier:
With the ballast disconnected from the power source, unscrew the ballast by rotating it counterclockwise to remove it.
Pull the ballast/light unit assembly straight up, being careful not to break the UV Bulb. Disconnect the bulb from the ballast by carefully pulling the bulb and ballast straight apart. Put the ballast into storage.
Remove the quartz sleeve for cleaning by gently prying between the rubber flange and tube adapter with a kitchen knife or small screwdriver. Clean the quartz sleeve, and then place the bulb inside the sleeve for safe keeping. Alternately, you may store sleeve and bulb in a safe place until ready for reassembly in spring.
Drain the filter with a siphon or a wet/dry shop vacuum with a thin extension tube. Replace the quartz sleeve and bulb in filter if desired.
Screw UV plug onto threads of the tube adapter in center opening of handle to keep the rain water out.
